Minecraft Windows 10 Edition - Get All Texture Packs For Free!

I found this out while trying to install the new behaviour packs and all that stuff. This was discovered at 18:06:39 GMT+0300 (GTB Standard Time) (if that is important) so here is a tutorial! If you share this make sure to credit me:

  • Step 1. Take control of the WindowsApps folder in C:/Program Files/ by doing this: Downloading the following registry addition http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3841-take-ownership-add-context-menu-windows-10-a.html and then running the .reg file that came with it, after you have done all of that just right-click on the WindowsApps folder, Take Ownership

  • Step 2. Go to the Microsoft.MinecraftUWP0.1600.5.0_x64_8wekyb3d8bbwe folder and go to the /data/resourcepacks, there you will see the major flaw. They included all the resource pack files with the game. Copy those to a safe location.

  • Step 3. Now navigate to this location using the File Explorer: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\games\com.mojang (make sure to replace username with your PC name)

  • Step 4. Now navigate to the resource_packs folder and copy all the resourcepacks to the folder. Now launch Minecraft and it should work!
Troubleshooting

Q: The Take Ownership Registry addition does not work for me!
A: Try doing it manually by using the Security tab in the Properties window

Q: The resource packs aren't working for me!
A: Edit the metadata and remove all UUIDS and other identification stuff then try again, for best results rename the UUID to the name of the texturepack(Thanks to @LiveLatios)

Wow! Thanks for this! Tested with Windows 10 Edition Minecraft & iPad Minecraft PE
(using vshare to put the files in) works great!

I never understood why make us pay for texture packs -_-
Pc Java gets them free but everyone else with the stable Minecraft (non java) gets less features ...no mods ..no textures your imagination is limited by money ...
Minecraft Java you pay once get everything else free..

Im not that mad that the Windows 10 Edition is so limited as I got it for free from the Java version. But yeah, you are right... Its almost as Microsoft is making people buy the 10 euro edition(windows 10) and then because it is so limited, if they want mods then they will have to buy the 25 euro edition(java)

You do. But I think that Microsoft's plan is to make someone new buy the underfeatured Windows 10 version first, and then when they realise what it really is their only choice is to buy the java version.

Poor people ...Minecraft Java is thee best laggy sure but the best More bang for your buck.. Buy Minecraft Java First (more features like REAL mods not this addon mumbo jumbo and FREE texture packs) Then if you can't run that version and have Windows 10 go here https://account.mojang.com/ see if you get a code and if you can redeem (im unsure what the rule is or if its even still available)

My assumtion, the free redeem key, if microsoft ever plan to remove the plan, they will do so when their C++ UWP version leaves beta

Or if you have Minecraft PE Android just use Lucky Patcher
all though you do have to keep buying it every time you close the game.
Or Root and use Freedom for free in-app purchases, PS: I also found all the skin files and they work, I also found the cape files, idk if its worth another tutorial though

Make sure you copied them to the right location... if not, I can provide you the resource packs as who knows, maybe some copies are fixed...
i copied it to the right location, i'm testing and seeing if i can manually port dokucraft and have it show up

EDIT: everything goes in C:\Users\*user*\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\games\com.mojang\resource_packs\ Right?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I found out that you have to manually edit the metadata and remove all the IDs, like the UUID and whatnot
