So i can't motive myself to beat any game. Even just the main story. Here is a list of games i have with the completed story

-Pokemon OR
-Pokemon Y
-Super Mario 3d World
-Cave Story
-Portal 2

That is about 5% of my game collection.

I tend to beat about 10% of most games and then get bored. Here are some of those games
-Super Mario 64 - 15 stars
-Portal 1 - right after the betray.
-Shovel Knight - I beat the first few levels I think
-Twilight Princess HD - Not very far.
-Super Mario 3d Land - world 5
-Hyrule Warriors Legends - Runs like crap on my old 3ds and only beat the first level
-Super Mario World - Sadly can't get past the first level of world 2 (I suck)
-Triforce heros - this game has a story?
-Sonic Generations - I can't remember

It isn't like I don't enjoy these games though. I love playing them. I just don't feel like beating them. How should i go about motiving myself to beat these games? (The games I mentioned are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. I have way more games)

Just focus in one game, but it really depends of the person, right now I play Pokemon shuffle and Pokemon az, since in Pokemon shuffle the events are by weeks when I finish them I go with az, I'm training a bagon and my others pokes from Gen 4 and back

HAVE FUN! :)

No, seriously, that is as simple as it can get. Motivation is a mental state that you yourself have and control. Is just you need to have certain kind of mentality.

This may sound irrelevant but, to be fair, is kinda the same. We all probably tried playing a game online once, right? My experience isn't the same as most people. (Made a blog post about it) But short story, is when i play online games i usually lose focus of the reason i started to do it. I try playing games online to meet other players like me who wanna have fun, but i quickly started to feel like is not working, and it slowly had me stopping. I still think about it, but i really lack motive to do so. Part of the reason why is

  1. I don't find it satisfying with random people who only last a few minutes before being replaced.
  2. Inappropriate chatter. (besides is inappropriate, is mostly nonsense and insults which really isn't socialization i wanted)
  3. Not as constructive or progressive.
So i know my reasons why i lost my motivation. I have wanted to achieve a goal, still contemplating it. How i wouldn't know, but somehow is possible, just i got unlucky.

More relevant example, I have unfinished save data of final fantasy VII on my ps3, why i haven't been playing it? Well is a fairly old game and there newer ones and more interesting to do, usually those type of games are ones i would play simply cause i'm waiting for new one, feel reason to do so in the first place, or whatever.

Bottom line is some of us has things we can't always understand, like our excuses, but i think if you just understand why you haven't done it yet, it should become clear what you could do to get motive back. You should find out why you stopped in the first place to begin with.

Suggestion would be that you could just turn everything around you off, and just start the game and see how long you can last before stoppoing, sometimes it just take right ammount of pressure and set the right mood and enviroment to do something you wouldn't even thought you could. Maybe add a challenge to your game, just find a way to enjoy your game. People play games cause is fun. If is not fun, then what else is there?:teach:

Thanks!
For Portal 1, don't you want to see what happens when you kill GLaDOS? Depending on the version you have, there may be some bonus levels you can do after beating the story.
I do but that goes into my second problem. I watch the ending before playing some games.
Buy these games, that should be enough.
I bought most of the games i mentioned

Ooooo I have the exact same problem as you, buddy! I think it's because we don't want our games to be over :D
More recently, I've been choosing to focus on a game I'm near-completion and make sure to finish it. And I seem to be enjoying games a lot more that way!

Thanks for the tip. I will likely focus on finishing 3d Land now.

Just cause one has access to CFW, hacks and free games doesn't mean is what they use it for. Not safe to assume it is what people do. They make their choices and know the difference... (I hope you do.) People will pay for a good game when is worth it and....

I get that a lot, you're not the first person to use that phrase (even though i dunno what it means) but i it is what it is, i'll live, won't kill anyone. :P

Regarding online gaming, it can be fun if done right. I done it all wrong, problem is i feel there needs to be communication, and friendship behind it. To me whoever invented ranking systems in online games, i dunno why, probably a reason to give people to do better? But is not really necessary in my opinion. I tend to avoid anything regarding ranks and leaderboards (besides games that give no choice)

Once again is all based by motivation, just have fun with the game and is all good. :)

tl;dr means too long, didn't read. That is mainly when someone post a long explanation and someone is to lazy to read all of it so they ask for a summary of it by saying "tl;dr please".

From what it looks like by the games you've mentioned, I'd say the games you've been trying kind of lack a real story element. Maybe that's why it's hard for you to get invested into a game at the moment. I find myself constantly comparing games to the quality of games I've played in the past.

I'm currently going through the same thing as you TC. I THINK the problem for me is one of the following.

1. I have too many games. I have so many I have no idea where to start so I get overwelmed so I don't play any of them.

2. Lack of time. Kinda like the first one but so many games come out too fast and that are so long that I just don't have the time like I did anymore.

3. Don't find them fun anymore or not as much as I used too. I'm not even saying games today are crap but I just don't find them as fun anymore. I do find those gems that make me love gaming again but those are becoming rarer and rarer.
