Hardware Is there a way to region mod, but keep the 3DS stock?

I was wondering if there's any way to region mod the 3DS but keep it as stock? I know I can region mod it after installing A9HL, which doesn't really make a difference at that stage, but I have a Japanese 3DS XL that I just want to change to PAL without any custom firmware or further modification.

OK, so I changed the sys firmware region to 9.2.0-E using the EUR ctrtransfer file and then changed SecureInfo_A to match. I then uninstalled A9LH using SafeA9LHInstaller, but it now doesn't boot to anything, with or without the SD card inserted:(

you needed to have kept custom firmware/a9lh, especially modifying a file like SecureInfo_A, which has a signature. sorry but you bricked.

I flashed it back to the original Japanese NAND with a hardmod. I guess el_gonz87 was just talking crap, then? Is there any way of just changing region? I was really just wondering, because I saw this listing on eBay and I have a limited edition Japanese Eevee console that I just wanted to play PAL games on without any further modification: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=112141345303#ht_3492wt_931

What if I access Decrypt9 and GodMode9 with the HB Launcher to install a PAL 9.2.0 firmware and edit SecureInfo_A?

if you modify SecureInfo_A, you need custom firmware. no exceptions to this. I don't see why you don't want it anyway.

It's mainly just so that if I come to sell it, it'll be easier to sell here as a PAL console and I don't want to have to explain to people how to use A9LH and that they can't ever remove the SD card.

well note that eShop won't work, and there's not much you can do about it. just a warning. you could probably sell it to someone who wants a pre-hacked console.

you can install a9lh on ctrnand, so that luma runs from the nand instead of the sd, if you set it up and they use regular sd's they would not even know they use CFW, + the still would keep a9lh when updating

modify it and break the signature sure, but you can replace it with one from another console.
(i know you know this, just, for others)

I do know this, but there's no real reason to. wouldn't it give a higher risk of a ban online for using a public SecureInfo_A, compared to using custom firmware?

i doubt it, but just if someone really strangely wanted to region change their console and then remove all the hacks, it's possible.
but sure, just hack it. a9lh is as unobtrusive as it can get basically.

it is possible, but they're looking to sell it to someone who probably knows nothing about hacks (especially using a public SecureInfo_A), so probably wouldn't expect things to suddenly break or for them to be banned.

sure but i wouldn't think anything would break or any bans would happen. nintendo are gentle, i think it is very safe to assume no bans will occur.
and hacked or not, the ban will still happen, no?

only the annoying stuff that happens with region changing and eshop, etc
but that will happen hacks installed or not

I think I'll probably go down this route, but get hold of a used PAL 3DS and swap the motherboards and then install A9LH on the Japanese board. I hate the upper screen connectors, though:angry:

I wasn't aware of that. I'll look into it, thanks. Although if I was to sell it on the buyer would still be unable to access the eShop.

Also, is there a way of quickly and safely uninstalling A9LH to get a console back to stock, other than rewriting the nand with a hardmod?

well yeah, ther is a update right now, 11.2, disable luma's safety functions and update, that should overwrite firm0 and firm1 partitions and acctually just install real firmware, but you could probably sell it for more with cfw on it, install luma to ctr and they wouldn't need to worry, you could pre-install stuff and sell it for probably more.

I just updated my cfw to 11.2:). I know most people would normally prefer to have cfw, but the people who buy limited edition versions of stuff can be a bit funny, even if the hardware hasn't been modified at all.

did you disable luma first? otherwise it should still run a9lh
