I've recently got a scph 5502 ps1, which is PAL. I wanted to get a cheap gameshark, and I ordered this:
http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sony-Playstation-Game-Enhancer-Code-Card-/262554065092

After ordering, I noticed it said 'preloaded ntsc/Japan codes'

The seller said it was unused stock, and UK seller, but because of what it says on the box, I'm worried that it won't work with my PAL PS1. Can someone confirm there's a chance of it working??

I think this is a Acrion Replay clone, so is made for the NTSC market.
What I remmeber form my PSX gaming years, that you can not use NTSC codes for PAL games.
But you can always add PAL codes for your PSX games, but this take allot off time.

In my PSX gaming years I use a Xploder for my games.
Later on, it got broken.
Then on a flea market, I found a Acrion Replay clone preloaded with NTSC codes
Soon I find out that most off may PAL don't work, so then on I downloaded only NTSC games.
Becase I was to lazy to putt all those PAL codes ;)

But keep in mind, some games don't work good with that kind cheat device.
I remmeber when using Xploder with Metal Gear Solid, movies/music where laggy.

Fair enough, as long as it turns on and boots on my pal console. I'm using this as a way to boot backups, most of the backups I make are NTSC anyway. So cheats shouldn't be the biggest of problems.

Indeed there are many clones made, some are really great.
I got this:
topking-movie-card-playstation-with-rca-cable.jpg

Works great, also the memory card manager was really great.

I'm not sure. What happens if an NTSC gameshark/action replay is used on a PAL system, or the opposite way?
Do you need to use an RGB cable to fix the color? PS1 wasn't intended for PAL60, and NTSC50 isn't a normal TV standard.

Well thats the main question. I think I ordered a NTSC gameshark clone on accident because I thought it was PAL because it was a UK seller and they said it was 'unused stock'. I want to know if the gameshark clone will work on a PAL console.

If I have to guess... Most likely an NTSC gameshark will start up, but with its menus displayed at 60hz. Since the optical drive's security isn't involved in this step.

IIRC it just outputs in NTSC, but otherwise work fine. Those (the clones, mostly used for backups), were pretty common and easily found at computer fairs/markets etc back when the ps1 was out and I don't ever recall any of them specifically being marketed as PAL or NTSC, as it didn't really matter, most people just used them for backups. So unless you had a really shit tv that supported only 50Hz, worst case was you just got a black and white menu, so not really a problem. I think, but am not 100% sure (long time ago), some had an option in the menu or a way to switch them.

A quick search turns up a guide for a goldfinger (another generic clone/cheat device), having a button combo to change mode

http://sadbuttru.tripod.com/userguide.htm " Press L1, SELECT AND then press "O" to switch to PAL mode". Presumably the same would it switch back to NTSC, but the page has a big warning about possibly breaking/not being able to switch back if you do it with an ntsc console and tv. I assume that's just the normal warning because of NTSC tvs being shit with anything other than NTSC (at least back then).
