Hacking Oh god I think I messed up/bricked my friends Wii

So my friend gave me his Wii to straighten up for him. It was already hacked and apparently has modchip in it as well. I think its WiiKey

Anyway many of his apps stopped working for some reason and he gave it to me to fix. i did like i always do when hacking a wii. go straight to pimpmywii and run auto updater. i paid attention to some of the new types of messages but didnt notice anything strange.

I did that and ran through the hermes installer for USB Loader GX aswell.

so i finish then i turn off and when i try turn it back on i get

"the system files are corrupted"

now this guy has TON of apps installed on this thing but neither he nor i know exactly how this thing was initially handled. I did a bunch of recovery apps on it so i assume it must be somewhat ok

so i try to boot preloader and it works

preloader v0.28
ios v60
systemmenu v449

There is no bootmii option that i can find

i tried accessing the system menu from there but it gives me

couldn't find hacks.ini on fat or nand

I try to access HBC and it says it cant find it and may not be installed.

I try load/install file and it claims there is no sd card

the only thing it lets me access is settings

am i screwed?

Wow. This guy must have liked his Wii. Installed a modchip and everything. Do you think he has a recovery of the NAND?

well as far as i understand, he got the modchip a looooong time ago and then moved on to the soft mod as it got better.

I have a really basic understanding of modding Wii's. I just know how to letterbomb mod them, install apps, emus, and game wads etc and run usbloader and simple stuff like that. I dont know anything about recovery stuff as in all my years i've never had a problem. i do know about simple stuff like bootmii....which unfortunately i cant seem to find it on his preloader.

i tried another sd card from one of my wiis and it didnt work. how should i do it?

should i just back up the data, then format it to FAT32, then just copy the data back on to the same card?

i dont know that the slot is gone because i ran homebrew apps from the sd card before everything went to hell

Well in any event copied everything, formated it and am now transferring stuff back on to it. Hopefully that does...something?

but if not is there a way to possibly reinstall HBC using preloader? or hell reinstall or recover ANYTHING using preloader...or any other method for that matter?

EDIT: Dang formatted it and still didnt work. The guys SD card is total mess of files. Could that potentially be causing issues?

use preloader configurator on your pc to make it load multi mod manager, and install all MIOS, system menu, boot2, BC and all ioses 1 to 200 non modified offline (you can predownload the wad's to an sd-card though i forgot where to put them), now you should be able to reinstall the mods... i would recommend removing the modchip since it might bypass the installation of some system files, or corrupt them.

It's a homebrew app so you can just stick it on your SD card. If you can get Priiloader to start you can run the Homebrew Channel from there and run Dop-Mii.

You should be able to use the installer by itself without Letterbomb or other exploits if you can get to Priiloader. Just get the installer from https://bootmii.org/download/ and unzip it to an SD. You should be able to load boot.elf from Priiloader from the "Load/Install file" option.

thank you so much. so im reading its kind of hard to parse out what it all means but if im understanding correctly, i should just load it to wii sd card and run it from preloader and then just use the in app options to reinstall the system menu.

is preloader that much changed the last year, it used to be able to start an elf file right away...i mean without hackmii or homebrew channel. only do keep in mind you should double check de wad files to be for your system... messing with those system files is rally dangerous for your wii... ios 40 and up till about ios 100 should never get modded, and 1 till 39 can only be downgraded version, not modded (specially 36/38 downgrade could be handy if installing something).
when system is working again, do a wii official update to get all mods out of it...

It doesn't have to be an elf file it can be a dol and the menu should also display any homebrew apps in the /apps/ folder on the card. Just don't press A to install them, use 1 to run them in place.

No offence but, I'm starting to get the feeling that you didnt really read the opening post and you're not really reading my questions.

My friends Wii is old and bloated with old mod methods and apps. I'm pretty sure the preloader he is using is old as all hell

I feel like some of what you suggest is really helpful but you arent quite giving me the small details i need to be able to apply them.

The only thing i need to know how to do is restore the system menu. I know how to do everything else. If i can just get back into the system menu, format and update the Wii to 4.3U then im good to go. I just need a step by step of how to do that.

which boot.elf are you referring to specifically? Are you referring to the hackmii or dopemii?

i get the second part where you say hit 1 instead of A. I will remember that for later.

Wrong application. "Preloader" is very old and doesn't have the features that "Priiloader" does.
