Hacking A few questions about the Vita Hacking scene

Hey guys, I've hacked my PS3 and my 3DS before and I was wondering a couple of things.

As the scene is new but the original hack has been patched in 3.61, should I buy a vita now?

What's your thoughts on a PS TV? (I could pick on up for about $30 AUD)

Even though Vitas aren't that expensive, the memory cards are. What is the best bang for your buck price/gb?

Is there any words of a vita to micro sd adapter? I saw something a while back but want sure if this came to fruition. Would be better than dropping $85 on a 64gb memory card when micro sds go for about $25 where I live [emoji27]

The PSTV is very worth it. There are a lot of games you can play (and even more with a whitelist hack), and it is very cheap, especially if you own a DS3/DS4 controller.
You should pick a Vita, definitely. I have two 8GB cards, but yeah, they're expensive. I'd set for an 8GB card until a microSD->PSVMC adapter comes around. 16GB if you can find it cheap. You can have a couple of games installed at the same time with it. I have Project Diva X and f on one card, didn't install any other games on it yet.

There's been some talks on it, but nothing has come to (full) fruition yet, and since we've already passed vita's lifespan, demand is probably fairly low and I wouldn't waste my time waiting on it (awesome if it does happen though).

Do you even own one? It's a pretty good device. You seem to be thinking that the PSTV only works as a remote play device. Though it was branded like that after the failure of the Vita, it still is a Vita system. In fact, iirc it was sold in Japan as PlayStation Vita TV. I've owned a PS Vita before (PCH-1000), and now own a PSTV - it's definitely a good system, especially for its price.

So what remains is remote play, arguably the reason I got a vita.
Sure you can remote play the ps4 from pretty much any android device, but the same doesn't hold true for the ps3.
Being that aside from the few games I like on the vita that is main feature for me, the main appeal is actually playing them remotely as opposed to on the tv, because at that point I could/should just turn on the ps3.
So to me, the pro that the ps tv has is video output, provided you want to record it.

It IS a PlayStation Vita. Of course it doesn't upscale games. It has the same exact specs as the PSV. That would make performance horrible.
You can use a DS3/4 controller if you want to, making it significantly more comfortable. Sony advertising remote play as the main feature of the PSV/PSTV is quite sad, but oh well, that's just what they did. There are a lot of games that look just fine on a TV, and especially for those who already own a DS3/4, it's very, very cheap to get a PSTV (I bought mine for 30€, in fact).

A PS TV is just as good as the Vita is if portability is not a concern. With a DS4, you can emulate front/rear touches although it's a bit uncomfortable toggling them. Some games that use a camera in game will be broken, but that's a very few games (I'd say Tearaway is the only significant one). On the plus side, the pstv may be able to use the controller's L2/R2 in emulators or PSX games. And although I'm not sure if development is going on on this front , the PS TV has a USB port and I'd bet that would be more easy to exploit as expandable storage, than a microSD adapter that may not happen in the near future (just my thoughts on it)
For $30 I'd buy this. And maybe a VITA too if I had money left over (can't you get them both?)

Don't place too much hopes for a storage adapter, there's still a lot of memory card decryption and other things that are needed before you'd see something like that appear. Im sure some day it will be available but nowhere in the immediate future.
Buy something that's 16/32gb if you can find one cheap, that should suffice.

I never said it wasn't a vita, I merely stated the reasons why I didn't get one, as well as upon replying to you, elaborating on why it might interest someone else.

Yeah, I know, I was just pointing out its advantages and why upscaling on the PSTV would be.... well.... stupid. It'd have to be more powerful (and expensive) to do so.

I would quite welcome rendering at a higher resolution, but I guess that's up to opinion.

It would be more expensive, as it'd need better specs. They went for a cheap console here.

That's for you replies guys! And yeah having a USB port is definitely an option for adding USB storage or something instead of using the proprietary memory cards which cost a fortune.
I think i would like the portability, I do enjoy it with my 3DS and I already own a PS3/PS4 for PlayStation couch gaming.
Not sure if I misunderstood but can you remote play from a PS3 to a Vita or is it only PS4? I think that would be pretty cool to have too [emoji848]

When it comes to models, you have the fat and the slim right? And it's just a general consensus that the fat is better due to having a nicer screen?

The Fat has an OLED screen which is much nicer, but the slim has 1GB internal storage (which I think gets disabled anyway if you use a memory card) and longer battery life. In reality, get whichever you want because it doesn't really matter.

You'd be very, very unlikely to buy a Vita with 3.61 - in fact, I doubt there are any 3.61 consoles in circulation, so I'd assume you can buy any Vita without worry.

As for memory card size, if you plan to pirate games then I very heavily recommend a 64GB card. They're expensive, but you'd be crippling yourself with a smaller card that can only hold a couple of games. 32GB may cut it, but I personally feel it would be a false economy. Look at it as an investment, the cards aren't going to get cheaper anytime soon.

Vita Vs. PSTV is pretty clear. If you want a handheld, go with the former. If you want a TV device, so with the latter. Any other functional differences are pretty minor. The PSTV may be de-facto incompatible with many games due to the lack of a touchscreen, however.

@Rizzorules I don't think Sony is manufacturing the PS TV anymore so 99% sure it wouldn't be on 3.61

Yes you can back them up onto your pc using the content manager app on the vita (and I'm assuming the same with pstv) and using OCMA or QCMA on your PC, pretty sure QCMA was made with mac in mind but works on PC too

Sure. There are even apps like the VitaOrganizer to make the process easier.

It's still less than ideal, but probably essential for people with smaller cards.

I think 'crap' is overstating the point, it definately has its uses - especially as an emulation device. It's real limiting factor is the natural lack of a touchscreen.
