Natsume has put out a gameplay trailer for its latest Harvest Moon title, subtitled Skytree Village. The trailer explains some of the characters and gameplay mechanics that the game will have, such as fishing, terraforming, taking care of animals, and farming. Harvest Moon: Skytree Village is set to launch November 8th of this year for Nintendo 3DS. As a reminder, Natsume holds the license for the Harvest Moon franchise name, while Story of Seasons, made by Marverlous AQL, is the continuation of the Bokujō Monogatari series that originated on the Super Nintendo in 1996.

All I see is the try hard attempt to imitate Bokujou Monogatari, I mean look at those cow.

If they want to stick with the genre then they should had make something different, this is just look like a cheap bootleg from China.

Ok they have rights on the "harvets moon" name so they are using it to make independent games... but why it's hard to follow the original idea? .A.

This is what happen when instead of leting people that like and know about the series work on it :/ it's look much like hã ... sonic boom?
I mean .. that idea of " we want to innovate the serie and try new stuff and do everything based on molds that we know already work, else it gonna be a failure" ... I really hate when these " business" enter the game ... see the last bokujou monogatary, that piece is beaultiful just too look, the artwork, the scenary, the caracters...
and this? ben10 made a ranch in minecraft world? the cubes don't even had a good proportion with the characters :/ I think in lost valley it looked better but still had no will to try these " independent"... go hire the stardew valley guy instead hahah even "orange season"(updated) look better than this :v

I am staring at the video and it looks like an updated Harvest Moon to me. I've been playing the Harvest Moon games since Harvest Moon 64.
Although this one looks like they took some ideas from several other games, it still looks like a Harvest Moon game to me.

compare the original bokujou monogatari serie how it's today ... it's got diferent ways... in the basic, yeah looks like, even the "orange seaon" game look like harvest moon but harvetsmoon is more than digng the soil and plating crops, right? in the basic looks alike but it more like a licenced ripoff than actually the same serie (if wasn't the brand rights....).
Other thing is that these gamesif is really good get localization to another languages, and none of these "independant" got any other language than english XD (If I'm sure, even chineses that translate everything as fan work havent got these :v lol).
the really big problem (for me) about these ripoff is that they looks more "4buzness"... I mean, made to look call (kids) atention and sell them it because is an easier public and stuff, not really working on it to make a nice piece ... there are too many "patterns" xp

Due to their recent scuffle with the original developer, Marvelous, Natsume is using the brand to make and release their own awful games in North America (and Europe?). Marvelous can't do anything about it because of foreign copyright laws.

So what now? The original franchise name is "Bokujou Monogatari". Marvelous has entrusted their future Bokujou Monogatari games with a different localization company "XSEED", who in my opinion are better than Natsume because Natsume frequently leaves bugs and translation errors in their games. The Bokujou Monogatari series is now "Story of Seasons". All future Marvelous-made games will be under the title "Story of Seasons" and Natsume's shitty wannabe games are "Harvest Moon".

To me, a long-time fan, it's really distressing to see this confusion over a long-loved franchise and it's name. All we, the fans, can do now is lead returning and prospective players to "Story of Seasons" so that they can play the quality farming games the series was truly known for.

Of course, you can play the Natsume Harvest Moon games anyway. They're not as original as the Marvelous games, but if Farmville can entertain, so can those.
