It's been a while since I showed up here. I'm happy to see the project is still proceeding and I look forward to it being released, though I am hoping that SEGA finally gets that we all love Phantasy Star and HD remasters PSP and PSP2i for the Vita and/or just releases PSO2 in the west. I know there's the tweaker and patches for PSO2 but I would still love to see it in the west. And what ever happened to Phantasy Star Nova I heard about?

There's too many issues to prevent PSO2 from being released in the west, much less do well there. There's definitely a difference between the server overheads for a game like PSP2 and PSO2, meaning that past translating it there would need to be a lot of time and money devoted to running it. There's also a lot of collaboration costumes, which are a licensing nightmare so the costume selection between the two versions would be drastically different.

PS Nova was never really a candidate for localization (probably due to the relative failure of the Vita in the west), though AIDA is working on a translation patch for it. http://arks-layer.com/nova.php

So basically, SEGA has deemed Phantasy Star a failure in the west.

That's really upsetting! I love Phantasy Star so much. I started on the SEGA Genesis with Phantasy Star III and the next one I played was Universe. It felt slow, but I loved it. Next in line was PSP2 which will always hold a special place in my heart. Then Phantasy Star Online for the Gamecube which I didn't get to play much of and finally, Phantasy Star Online 2. I love that game so much it holds the #1 spot for any MMO for me.

As sad as that is, at least we'll have PSP2i in English to hold us over for the remainder of our lives. :rofl2::cry:

@archnachoofthepi: Any luck with the testing?
Thanks for trying anyway, even if you couldn't find a solution.
As for the new PPSSPP version, the problem persists for me.

An aside: if you like making videos and you know PSP2i well, I could use some help with something.
In the マキシマムアタック∞ I through IV missions (that's the new multiplayer-only MAI missions, not the original MA/MAX ones), you should run into some NPCs at the beginning and possibly at the end.
And I believe Rapico is hidden in every mission.

What I need to see are mostly the Rapico lines and where you find him, so I have a context for some lines that are vague at best without it.
He should have 4-8 lines in every mission.
Clicking on every NPC you can talk to would be helpful as well.

So if you want to throw together some videos (each mission takes like 10-15m), it'd be appreciated!
I've checked some online videos already, but they mostly skip over it and focus on gameplay instead, so they are no help.

Screens could work too, mostly I just need to see where he is and why he says the things he does. It's probably easier to show with a video, but any help would be appreciated.
I already know his lines, but I need to see the context. (Do you rescue him, is he doing/holding something, and so on.)

Here's one of the videos you requested.
I will update with the other missions on this post.

1:45 Is where you'll find Rapico.
4:07 To the right of the dock, between the dock and the wall is where I found Rapico in a run prior to this video, but said the exact same thing.

Thanks, that's what I needed.
I wonder if the stuff he says is random, or if you can get him to say more stuff by talking to him.

Code:

He should have these 6 different lines in that mission for example.
2-4 are obvious what they are, but I'd like to see some context for the first one especially, and the last one too.

MAI2 has these 4:

Code:

Where the second line is ambiguous, the rest is OK.

MAI3 lines 1, 3 and 4:

Code:

And the MAI4:

Code:

All lines there, basically. And there is potentially one more that might be in MAI4 (not sure, not related to Rapico):

Code:

This will show up in the game as: "あと # ヒット" (or "# hits remaining")
Might not be a part of that mission, but if it is, I'd like to see what that refers to.
Mostly I want to see the mentioned lines in the game, the rest aren't as important.

Thanks for any further help!

I have definitely seen this line in MAI1's bonus block at the beach area. I believe I have a video recording of that run. I'll dig it up and upload it once I arrive home from work.

Also, I suppose I could do runs of MAI4 since that's the one I remember how to do the most. Good times.

Thanks again to the translation team! Getting one step closer each day. Can't wait. On an unrelated note, I have been grinding gurhal heroes infinity rank and have been completing the mission with an S rank every time. I am trying to get the eternal psycho drive but no luck! Was this only available on internet multi mode? Or do I still have a chance at getting this rod?

The only way to get an EPD as of now is to clear GH Infinity-rank with an S or A clear grade in Multi-Mode. Otherwise, you'll get an Infinite Armor with the same conditions in story mode. Keep in mind that you'll have to give up a support character slot if you're hunting for an EPD solo.

Also, I've uploaded a thing. I should note that I started recording after I cleared the first room and the sound is completely muted because I'm such a genius.

I've been hunting solo this whole time. Your saying I need to have a partner with me? Thanks in advance (also, thank you for the footage since it brings us closer to the patch)

GH in Multi-Mode only allows up to two NPCs in the party, allowing only up to three people in a party when solo. Unlike in story mode, where you can fill the party with NPCs.

Edit: I made two more things pertaining to MAI IV.

Patience friend. First post gives accurate representation of progress. Weyu gives us progress reports on the finishing touches quite often and it looks like they are just fitting the text in the display boxes and coding the last of the patch now. From the looks of it I want to say at least 70% complete (although this is 100% speculation)

Translation seems to be coming as smooth as ever, so no need to worry. What about programming? Any bugs with text boxes or patches?

@JC200X: Thanks, only missing a couple lines now. If you can find them, that would be great. But no need to spend a ton of time on it, I'll just improvise in the worst case.

As for release, before 2017 was our initial plan but that doesn't seem likely at this point.
The translation work is mostly done, I just need to QC my latest work and finish the remaining lines.
The main issue is that we've had some major tech issues that I'd dare say, set us back pretty much half a year and Jam has been quite busy with RL lately.
This isn't his only project either, so he doesn't have full time to work on this.

And there are some tech features to work out too (subtitles, etc.) which will take time.
But overall, our progress is good.
I may be able to show some things in the near future, but no promises.

I registered an account just to be able to post on this topic.

I would like to deeply thank everyone involved in this project. You are all awesome and I appreciate your effort and hard work.

I look forward to being able to play PSPo2i with an English translation patch.

Noted. I'll bear that in mind as I record some more.

For what it's worth, I don't remember ever seeing that hit counter line in MAI IV. However, only that. Not to say that the line isn't in the mission.
