I have rewritten am rewriting ye ol' CTR_Companion in C++ for extra stablity™, so it'll be more extensible, easier to maintain, and hopefully this way I could eliminate the stack- and memory corruption issues :D

Current features:
  • Dynamic file format support
  • Uses superior NDSP instead of CSND (requires DSP firmware dump)
  • Seamless track switching while the currently playing song is ending
  • A basic playlist capable of holding max 127 elements
  • 10(+1)-band equalizer (stolen copied directly from VLC)
  • Adjustable playback speed
  • Displays some basic meta information (currently only the song name) Not yet, but almost :P
Planned features:
  • Listen to live streams via HTTP
  • Listen to SoundCloud music ('cause why not?)
  • A non-broken UI
Controls:
  • Hold SELECT to exit
  • File browser (default screen):
    • A - add the currently highlighted file to the playlist
    • Y - add the most files as possible to the playlist in file listing order
    • B - go back one level in the directory tree
    • X - switch to playlist view
    • DPAD/CPAD - moves cursor
  • Playlist view:
    • A - starts the playlist / switch track
    • B - pause the playback
    • Y when paused - resume
    • X - switch back to file browser
    • L/R - increase/decrase track counter, use A to commit
    • DPAD UP/DOWN - speed up/slow down playback
    • DPAD LEFT - set playback speed to 1.2x
    • DPAD RIGHT - set playback speed to 1.0x
Currently supported file formats:
  • .pcm (u16 samplerate, void* data)
  • .wav
  • .mp3 (only stereo is supported, buggy, likely to crash)
  • .ogg (Vorbis)
  • .flac [ @Margen67: yes, it supports 24bit 192kHz flac on new3DS :^) ]

Because I'm currently rewriting this for more stability™, there are no downloads. Check back in a few days/hours ;)

Definitely not pretty but it works pretty well, tested it with a couple FLACs just now. Can't wait to see how this turns out!

EDIT:
n3DS locked up while transitioning between tracks

Debug shows:
Exiting Decoder

This is already fixed in the local build :P

Is this the first 3DS homebrew to play FLAC? That's pretty awesome.

I think this is the first homebrew to even have an equalizer built in :P I just need to finally finish the frickin' UI!

Good job! Keep it up.
Not something that I'd personally use in a million years since my phone already does it and is less hassle but impressive nonetheless :)

And I don't think your phone lags out when playing 24bit 192kHz flac-es :P Even the new3DS does (and let's not talk about the old3DS :rofl2:)

if its vlc, should there be video playback and not just music playback... it just weird to call it a vlc when it can only play music... why not mlc???

Ye, I'm planning to get at least MPEG(4) video support goind after I rewrite this, it would be good to just convert my anime to mp4 with ffmpeg, and watch them unattended without the stupid 10min limit :P

Is .mp4 playback actually feasible? I thought the 3DS was unable to play standard video files for whatever reason.

I hope it is though, because I've been dying for a dedicated media player on the 3DS where i can select videos I have on my SD card. I know we have solutions like making individual channels for each video want, but the obvious downside to that in addition to having to do a long ass conversion procedure with the video on the PC, is it also eats up 1 of your 300 title slots on the 3DS, given that I'm at just about 300, each one of those slots matters greatly to me.

Netflix is on the 3DS, seems like enough said to me.

Yeah, well I don't want videos on my 3DS for all the times I'm around Wi-Fi obviously. Should have gone without saying that the reason I want this is for when I'm on a long trip or riding public transportation or whatever without wifi.

I mean, that was my argument for other video codecs being feasible on the 3DS. I too am looking forward to video playback on the 3DS.
