Just got my 120gb slim in, its all setup and ready to go from the previous owner, ive got a spare 500gb hdd, any easy way to swap HDDs? Ive thought about the way we do emunand SD cards for the 3ds by creating a img and then restoring it and repartitioning.

The FW is stored on the NOR flash (NOR is like a NAND flash chip).

All you do is replace the HDD, and have the same or greater version of the REBUG update on a USB Stick and you should be set. The System should automatically boot into recovery mode and ask for the update and will prepare the new HDD.

USBROOT>PS3>UPDATE>PS3UPDAT.PUP (All Caps) formatted as FAT32

That ifrit05 said.

I'd just start from scratch if I where you.
Just put in the new HDD, update to Rebug 4.80.1 (or whatever the latest is) and install Multiman and the Rebug toolbox.
Enable COBRA in the toolbox and reboot Multiman into mmCM mode.
After that, just FTP into the console and copy your games.
