OTP Guide

Full Guide Release!

https://plailect.github.io/OTP/

All regions now supported!

If you appreciate this guide and the work I put into maintaining it, I accept donations through both Bitcoin and PayPal.

If you felt like the guide helped you out then I'd really appreciate it! If I get enough I may buy a 2DS for testing hardware stuff so I don't break another N3DS.

If the guide didn't help you out then I'm really sorry about that :(

Hi All,

I was following Plailect's guide to downgrade. I performed the sysdowngrader and an error popped up during the install. I turned the system off. Now when I press the power button the screens are black and the blue light is on. After a few seconds the blue light turn off.

This is the error:
titleException:
title.cpp: 126: Result: 0xC920181A

Can someone please help me? I attached a screenshot of the error on my DS.

Did you follow this?

10. Clear Home Menu's extdata by navigating to /Nintendo 3DS/(32 Character ID)/(32 Character ID)/extdata/00000000/ on your SD card
  • EUR Region: Delete 00000098
  • JPN Region: Delete 00000082
  • USA Region: Delete 0000008f
  • KOR Region: Delete 000000A9
  • TWN Region: Delete 000000B1
If it booted up after doing that, you still need to do a downgrade even if system settings says 9.2.0-20. You should only proceed to the next step if sysDowngrader displays a success.

Yeah I tried that now but I alrady tried booting without the sd card and I took out the battery for a few seconds too.

Any other suggestions or alternatives to fix this?

Also, I couldnt seem to find that error code anywhere online :/

Are you doing a New3DS? The cia that failed is for the New3DS camera (https://www.3dbrew.org/wiki/Title_list#00040130_-_System_Modules).
What make's me wonder if you didn't used the wrong pack for your system.

You can also try to launch the recovery mode (press L+R+UP while booting). If it launches the recovery, you can always save your console by updating it to latest FW.

Explain in detail the steps you made till you reached the downgrade part so to have a better idea of what went wrong.
Your console specs also help.

Thanks Craves. I was able to restore to the latest firmware and will be sending in for a hardmod now.

Basically I have a N3DS XL with 10.3.28U (something like that)

I followed the steps and downloaded everything. Then I realized my stock SD card wasn't big enough so I formatted a 32gb SanDisk with 32k allocation size and copied the contents of my old card to this one. HBL didn't work so I did it again and installed menuhax.

Then I read about the possibility of a softbrick with the downgraded and moved out the Nintendo 3DS folder from my SD card. This broke HBL again so I did it and installed menuhax again just in case.

I loaded up the sysdowngrader and it verified all the files. My DS was plugged in and laying on the table and the back cover was off. Then that error code happened.

The strange thing is I haven't found anyone with that error anywhere. I'm just glad I was able to restore and will have the hardmod done now.

Best regards,
Armen

It's good that, at least you were able to restore it (even if it's latest FW).

To try to understand what happened, so we can be more knowlegeable about situations: Did you had your console disassembled (don't understand that "back cover off" )?
If it is what I think it is, maybe that specific cia failed due to the cams beeing loose or out of the case.

It seems you're "that one guy that had a problem that no one had", :)

Glad you're all good.

I think he is talking about the cover that hide the micro sd.

I'm getting a new 3DS tomorrow I perma bricked my other N3DS what is the best sysupdater I think in my old one I used safesysupdater it varied all the cias beforehand

"SafeSysUpdater" is more prone to bricks than the newer sysDowngrader, and sysDowngrader also checks hashes of files before proceeding with the install.

Yeah, sysUpdater w/ MCH2 came first, then SafeSysUpdater came out, but then PlaiSys came out and now sysDowngrader.

Any reason the guide is sticking with SafeA9LHInstaller 2.5.1 for N3DS and not 2.6.1?

So SafeA9LHInstaller 2.6.1 does not work with OTPLess install method. Obviously this is why 2.5.1 is listed in the guide. Does anybody know why this is? What changed between 2.5.1 and 2.6.1 that it no longer works?

There's no information stating that otpless doesn't work on v2.6.1 anymore though. Also, why doesn't old 3dses uses the latest release of safea9lhinstaller? why stick to 2.0.3 when there's already an update?

The guide was updated today with a fix for the infamous 9.2.0 downgrade softbrick.

tl;dr it turns out it's caused by some weird corruption in the NIM savegame. Plailect wrote a tool called nimSM that backs up and zeroes out the NIM savegame, which fixes the 9.2.0 downgrade.

(Conspiracy theory: Nintendo deliberately introduced this unusual corruption in some 10.x update on retail systems in order to prevent downgrades. That wouldn't explain why it works on some systems but not others, though...)
