I built a new PC with the bonus check I got from work. It's primary goal is MediCat development, but gaming too when I eventually save for an Evga 6GB 1060 GTX. I only spent a grand total of $475 on all the new parts. I ordered them from Jet dot com, and it actually saved me $50 compared to other sites like amazon and newegg. I'm super happy with it! It's exceeded my expectations by FAR. My CPU temps never get above 36C idle, or over 52C under full load on stock intel cooling. I'm also not overclocking, hence why I didn't buy the 6700K. I wouldn't utilize it to it's fullest.

New parts:
Core i7 6700 (non-K) @3.4GHz (4.0GHz Turbo Boost)
16GB (2x 8GB) G.Skill DDR4 2133MHz, CL15-15-15-35
Gigabyte GA-B150M-DS3H (DDR4) MicroATX motherboard (They make a DDR3L version of this board too)
Thermaltake Smart SP-600AH2NKW ATX12V & EPS12V Power Supply
Sharkoon VG4-W Black+Blue Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Gaming PC Case

Re-used parts from my old build:
Gigabyte R7 360 2GB (O.C. Edition).
Front-panel card reader from a dead Dell machine.
WD Blue 500GB HDD.
6x Blu-ray reader/CD+DVD Burner combo drive.
Blue LED strip I bought 10 years ago for internal case illumination.

Future parts, in order of importance:
A second 16GB kit of RAM, totaling 32GB for RAMdisks and a few 4GB virtual machines.
240GB Samsung 840 EVO m.2 SSD drive.
Aftermarket CPU cooler. (air, not water)
RGB LED case lights.
Corsair K70 RGB mechanical keyboard (Cherry-reds for silent typing while my girlfriend sleeps).
6GB Evga 1060 GTX.

(I've exchanged the DVD drive's silver bezel with a black one, shortly after this picture was taken.)

I'd actually put the SSD on first priority !
but yeah nice computer ;)

P.S. you are worried that your GF could wake up from your Typing when she is able to sleep with a running computer in the same room oO?
I doubt anyone able to sleep with a Computer running would hear your typing ... maybe if you have everything build to be silent ... but than you would probably need the water cooling

The SSD is second, since I need to shop around for the best price. The PC only has two 92mm fans that are silent, and my CPU+GPU fans rarely spin up. But even when they do, they aren't loud. My PC isn't even audible at idle. She sleeps with a large fan going anyway, but my typing on my Logitech G11 keeps her up. :/

Please don't do a B150, go for the Z170 mobos please. The i7 6700 could majorly benefit from that...
I may upgrade the Motherboard in the future, but for now the B150 suites my specific needs without any extra stuff I don't particularly need right now. And my budget was tight, I had to cut corners here and there.

Well SSD's are not as expensive as they have been 1 year ago or even half a year ago any more.
And if you ever used an SSD in your Computer you will never want to use a HDD again as the speed difference is enormous !

Or if you are insanely rich than get an SSD with M.2 ( maybe a Patriot Hellfire ? ;)
Else you can get something like Transcend TS32GSSD370S which has only 32GB but is completely sufficient to install your OS and maybe some stuff like Office or some Drawing Programm or whatever needs good speed.
Doesn't make sense to use a SSD for Games or Downloads yet anyways.

(I guess if you use Virtual Machines an SSD does make even more sense than the RAM as on a normal HDD you won't be able to load many files at once which would make your VM's run really really slow ! an SSD can open several data simultaneously)

It's always good to have an SSD since most modern general development programs are heavy and takes a while to load on normal computers.

I'm thinking of getting this SSD, just not for that price.

And here is my Speccy, along with a RAMdisk benchmark. (My other 16GB have been installed, so I have 32GB total now. 16GB of it is for Windows, games, and apps. The other 16GB are two 8GB Ramdisks)

Might need some o-ring dampeners for the keyboard if noise is a concern. Cherry reds are not really quiet. Not as loud as blue or brown, but certainly not a quiet switch.

Well once she's asleep, she won't wake up to my typing.
