Hacking Just updated to A9Lh. What are some do's and don'ts?

just updated my New 3DS from reinand to a9lh. I boot up my n3ds and I can play my "backups" no problem. The luma 3ds updater, does that update my CFW sysnand now? should I never update my system through system settings anymore? My system firmware doesn't say "Luma11.1.XXX (like REI or GW would normally say) I also restored my old emunand to my sysnand in the a9lh guide. But what I didnt do after was restore the Health and Safety App back to normal, that wont cause any problems later right?

The big question is, How would I update my firmware the next time a new one is out?

Also going to upgrade from a 16gb sd to 32 sd later today, and im just going to make a 1:1 image of it. That shouldn't be a problem either right?

I'm pretty sure you don't need an image. With A9HL you just need to copy the contents of your SD over to the new one

For me I needed the image. When I pasted back to my SD none of my 3ds games showed up. I had to restore the image.

If I'm not mistaken, creating a 1:1 image was because emuNAND was a hidden partition.

Hmmmm maybe your right but I don't remember having to do that. If I'm wrong then someone let me know haha
EDIT: Oh wait, I merged my emuNAND into my sysNAND when applying A9HL so that may be why it worked for me.

oh derrr I should have read the A9lh Faq:
Q:How do I move to a new SD card at the end of this?
A: Just copy all the files to the new SD card.

But a question still remains..
How would I update my firmware?

Just copy everything to the new card at it will work.

To update your firmware, just do it through system settings.

The luma updater will update the CFW (new features, patches if newer FW version breaks Luma, etc.)

Dos: Whatever you want. You pretty much cannot brick. You can restore from your backup even if you delete your whole CTRNAND.

Don'ts: Do NOT lose your Sysnand backup.

DO NOT USE STAR UPDATER, it Bricked MY system, I had to Use a SdCard Backup Not Just SysNand, SDCARD back up

A9LH will work, but Luma might break. Update Luma first through the Luma updater, or you might have to update manually. (Replace the file on your SD card.)

Luma is the CFW you are running.

A9LH is the entrypoint. Shortly after you press the Power button, A9LH starts and runs Luma.


BTW, as far as I know, new firmware has broken Luma to the point of not working once since Luma's creation, so you probably don't have to worry if you forget to update Luma first.

If Luma stops working, manually download the new one and replace the arm9loaderhax.bin on your SD card.

Few things to keep in mind.

A9LH replaced your "bootloader". Your 3DS no longer boots from NAND, but from the SD card. It starts the arm9loaderhax.bin file, which is Luma in this case. Luma then patches the firmware and runs it from the Nand.

That means, your 3DS won't boot if you don't have that file. Just try removing the SD card and powering on. It will just shutdown right away.

That's actually a good thing, though. If you manage to brick, you can replace that file with something like Hourglass9, boot into it and restore your Nand backup.

yeah I was cleaning up my sd card removing some files here and there. I guess I deleted some of the wrong ones, and the 3ds refused to boot up. The blue light quickly shut off. I put back the a9hl files back lol. its all good now.

Star updater? you mean luma updater?

There are two updaters for Luma3DS to choose from. One is starupdater and the other is lumaupdater.

I'm going to assume it was from when there was something wrong with the newest luma (at that time) (non-dev/dev at that time caused 3DS' to boot with firm errors or something like that, can't really remember what the error was but there was a bunch of threads about it)
