Lets be clear about the Smash DLC. The only reason we are able to have the DLC characters and stages on smash it because we have tools to edit and change some files around. Think of it as what people did with Smash for Wii. There are no such tools for games such as Mario Kart 8 or Hyrule Warriors and without them we won't be able to do anything with DLC related stuff untill either we have IOSU exploit or someone goes out of their way to develop tools for those games.

This thread is way confusing.... so, apologies if I say something incorrect/not helpful.

The DLC files have always been included in the updates (bit of a stretch to call it 'research' imo), it might go so far back to there actually being some of the DLC on disc too. If you purchase DLC for Hyrule Warriors and try dumping it, you'll get a very small file. It appears to simply be a key file that unlocks what you've purchased. Understanding this could be important to getting it working for everybody. I'm not willing to share mine, because I'm a miserable bastard. However, if you search in the right places, you can find where people have dumped this file and with that read about some attempts they made in getting it to work.

It might be possible to file-swap things in the latest update with the base game to get some of the DLC characters to work. The problem with this is well, you sacrifice some of the base game. I honestly have no idea why people do this, to each their own though....

Well actually as of right now after the updates of both the game and the trainer i'm unable to play with the Legends characters. and besides it was kind of limited seen how you are unable to choose what weapon to use.
