I'm in Europe, the chips are listed at $8, shipping included.

There'd have to be a lot of coincidences for that to be the wrong chip, after all I searched from the markings and found a chip with the exact same form factor, size and function. Could still be some weird non-standard chip but that seems very unlikely to me.

Soldering tiny SOP chips isn't really practical for most of us though, you'd very much need to know what you're doing

Aliexpress is a marketplace sort of like Amazon, they have hundreds of vendors. Try searching for "bq24072", it should give you some options with cheap/free shipping

So, I just purchased a replacement n3ds xl motherboard on ebay. How should I transfer the smd charge ic chip from that board to my current n3ds xl?

Also, what would be a good temperature for the hot air and would I be able to take off the surface mounted flex cable holders?

You just need the daughter board to be able to turn on your 3ds but it will not charge, otherwise you need both of those boards. I bought a good replacement daughterboard for $19 and I bought a used and untested motherboard on ebay for $26 that I think was semi-bricked, but the charging still worked, so I just swapped the charge smd ic using hotair/rework and now I can charge my n3ds xl again, but first I had to accept the risk of potentially destroying my motherboard in the process. Before that, I just charged the battery in my old 3ds xl.

What kind of lights are you getting?
Do you have power from the battery?
Test the power sw, so you can isolate.

The only lights I'm getting is when plugging in the charger.
The battery does have power
Power switch does work (I have no idea what isolate is.)
