I own one, and tbh, it's only the language and E-shop that is a con, if you don't understand Japanese. Once you A9lh, you can run any region CIA and use Luma's language plugin to fix certain games, since some default to Japanese, which confuses some out of region games like the US Zelda MM. You have the option of region changing it to English but you would lose E-shop on the n3ds.

You can region swap emunand and be able to have it in english, but you will lose the eshop for that emunand. I don't remember needing a Japanese address in order to use the eshop though (I have bought a few games on it). You should be able to use google translate to get a basic understanding of what is being thrown at you though if you plan on buying one.

Region swapping for japanese 3DS is nice, but since you can't open eshop, that's a little disappointing. Not that it matters for some people.
Edit: Dammit.

the guide also explain how to get eshop working even tho it a little complicated for N3ds

Well, they could make it work. But just as you say, it is tedious. Better stick to the US or EU, unless you understand Japanese, or you're a native from Japan.
If you don't want to region swap the whole system, you can just edit the home menu files to make the home menu English. That way, you still keep access to the Japanese eShop.
This is new for me. Editing home menu sounds brick prone to me.

Yeah, you can brick if you don't know what you're doing, but it's pretty simple if you follow a guide and know what you're doing. Similar to the A9LH install process I guess. I edited my sleep screen and imported it back without issue, it isn't too hard ^^

This is wrong. I have a Japanese system, it doesn't ask for your address, and accepts UK Debit Cards without issue. I'd expect US cards to work too.

Downside? No warranty. That doesn't matter because most users on this forum would get it modded. The language barrier doesn't matter because it's easy to navigate the system. Buying stuff from eshop is easy.

You can.

Nope. It works perfectly fine without one. Most English credit cards are fine too.

Unless you specifically want to play Japanese cards, there's really no reason to have a Japanese 3DS.
Well a US new 3ds (the small one) is expensive and hard to find. Plus I want one with a firmware around 9.0-9.2 and the black new 3ds is just what I want lol

Wait, would freeshop work with us games?

I hope that's right because Freeshop is super useful although I could live without it. Do you have A9HL or menuhax? I'm planning to put A9HL mine once I get it. How exactly does region patching work?
You know what? I will just do a quick check to see that I'm not making stuff up.

As for my Japanese N3DS it's modded using the A9LH guide.

Edit: I don't seem to have issues with US Freeshop content.
