I have someone who wants to trade me their Wii U on 5.5.1 for my 3.60 Vita and im curious to know if its worth it from a games standpoint. I have a Softmodded Wii already so all the vWii stuff is lost on me and I know the Wii u still isnt fully hacked like the Wii is and it may be a long time until that happens so im curious to know if there are upcoming games that are worth having besides zelda on this system?
You can buy all already released games. Else, zelda breath of the wild is the only *big* wii u game of 2017. The wii u is dead...
A few already released games are great. Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros, Splatoon (if you're into that sort of thing), Rayman Legends which isn't an exclusive but is by far the best to play on the Wii U, and Xenoblade. MK8 is easily best one though.
TBQH my Wii U had a great run with these games but once I burned through them it lost its lasting appeal due to the lack of new good titles. Every once in a while I return to MK8, but for example I'm leaving the country tonight and not even thinking about dedicating packing space for my Wii U.
That said, I think it's miles better than the Vita despite it's crappy Nintendo infrastructure (God, the eShop and NNID system makes me want to cry.) but at least it's got games.

pretty much nothing for this console, indeed wii U is dead, as well as Vita, but you can always get the few but awesome games the wii U has, pretty sure you will enjoy this console until NX got release with some juicy games.
In terms of games im only interested in mk8, ssb, the hd zeldas, and xenoblades. I already have a softmodded wii so was wondering if only the new zelda is the only thing left for this dead console as all the vWii stuff is lost on me. What about from a homebrew standpoint is this trade worth it seeing as how the vita scene for homebrew is on fire now and the wii u not so much. Im guessing it will be a while before the wii u gets to the point of the wii as far as homebrew/ usb loading goes?

still beats the vita, that thing was a hassle just to use and transfer files and expensive too
Hopefully nintendo will continue supporting it after they release the Nx ? i mean they're probably close to each in term of hardware , because Zelda BOTW will be released on both systems.
There's Paper Mario: Color Splash which is coming soon.
There are a bunch of great games already out for it, like Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, Yoshis Woolly World, Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, Super Mario Maker.
You might also like Hyrule Warriors and Captain Toad. I was pleasantly surprised by Captain Toad, it's a lot more fun than I expected.

Don't forgot CoD Black Ops 2 and Ghosts. Excellent Wiimote controls (extremely customizable).

I downloaded XP on dialup when it came out. Overnights for like a week. cuz I couldn't tie up the phone line during the day. It was so awesome and worked so great going from ME to XP. -
