Hacking New Gateway Methods. Are they worth for me? (4.5 old GW user)

Hello, I would like to know how to use the new features of the GW-3DS flashcard, I have no idea what are they for, I see now you can boot to Gateway Mode without any boot method, but I'm stuck back in the time where you had a 4.5 console and booted by entering to NDS profile.

I would like to know what do I do... Should I stay doing what I do (Booting Through NDS profile) or should I upgrade to the new gateway methods, I'm kinda concerned about what to do with my Pokémon savefiles (They're using the 4.5 encryption method and not the 7.X method) and I dont want to lose them (They're legit cartridges).


Will the new gateway methods ruin my savefiles?, if so, is there any way to update my savefiles?, is it really worth for me to upgrade (Entering NDS profile is not really a problem for me)

Btw. I'm so behind the 3DS scene that I dont even have the Homebrew Menu installed...

Just stay. The new gateway stuff is only for a9lh, which can more likely ruin your system. Either stay or use a better cfw, like luma3ds, and then do a9lh with luma.

Both said it is good, only that gateway al9h is not really worth it. That said, take luma, and do the al9h install. Its the best thing you can wish for atm.

No, because you will probably still be using the same emunand.

dont use the a9lh gaetway method. i ruined my 4.5 3ds xl with it.
i was stuck on a frankenfirmware and had to update to 11.0 and cant use gateway anymore.

im pretty pissed now.
i was on a perfectly fine o3ds xl with fw 4.5 and followed everything exactly.
my system got an error during the 2.0 downgrade and i was stuck on a frankenfirmware.
now im on 11.0 and cant use anything at all and i dont want to hardmod my 3ds for a downgrade.
im done with 3ds hacking for now.

Do you have another 3ds that is cfw? If so, you could do the dsi downgrade.

I am in the same situation (4.5 with gateway).
I can play all the 3ds games i want, even the latest lego star wars without a sweat.
Just a copy paste of 3ds file from pc to sd...done

Downgrading , upgrading, patching, installing .... And for what? Playing 3ds games (which i already can)
With all the riscs involved in each step of bricking your console.

Personally i dont find it worth it...just stay on 4.5 and tap 4 times to enter gateway mode.

The moment it is easy as psp/vwii/wii hacking...perhaps then.

IIRC, 7.x+ firmware can read both 4.x and 7.x encrypted saves, so your Pokemon saves should stay intact and convert to 7.x save encryption if you update your 3ds firmware past 6.x. That's how I understand it at least. Either way, you can backup those games using savedatafiler or JK's Save Manager before doing anything, as well as a make a sysnand backup, then you can return to your 4.5 fw setup with all your saves intact if anything goes wrong.

Of course, if you are comfortable with your current setup then I don't think the hassle is worth it! Gateway's A9LH implementation is still in beta and it has no advantages versus the standard A9LH, only disadvantages. And A9LH is absolutely not needed if all you really do is play games. It is a much better exploit compared to the DS profile exploit that you use, sure, but if you are not really a "tinkerer" and don't like the risks involved in setting it up, you can stick to using the DS profile exploit and enjoy all the same games we a9lh and menuhax users are enjoying.

I see. Back in my time i was a huge fan of al this RE and homebrew stuff (It even helped me to decide my mayor Electrical Engeneering/Computer Engineering) But since I'm on my last college year i can't get back in touch with the scene, I can't even take my time to play games (Gaming mostly at vacations)

Thanks for your advice, probably going to stick with my working 3ds setup. Why fix what isn't broken right?


Btw, back in my day, when you put a Pokemon game (Using gateway emunand) on a legit 3ds (6.X +) your gamefile would be deleted, since the Pokémon game Should be using the newest encryption method, it showed a message saying that the savefile was currupted.
