Hey there,
I'm interested in installing A9LH on my New 3DS, but way too worried about bricking. I know the chances are low, but I'm still worried.

So I'm looking for someone that's got experience to do it for me. I'm located near the city of Melbourne and can drive around.
My 3DS is on 9.2 downgraded from 9.9, with emunand on 11.0. I think the SysNAND has been formatted 3 times, if that info is needed.

Please post interest in this thread, then we can take it to PM to discuss more.

Mods, please feel free to move or delete thread. I'm not sure if discussion like this is stepping on any toes is all.

Thanks in advance

If you already downgraded from 9.2 to 9.9, you already went through the biggest risk (which is the downgrade without any kind of possible recovery in case of problem). But on 9.2, even if you brick (which shouldn't happen since most stuff happen on emuNAND and the only thing that happens to sysNAND is checked a huge amount of times (just, if anything goes wrong, keep calm, kepp your 3DS plugged to a socket and call for help without turning it off because if you turn it off when OTPHelper says that the write to sysNAND failed, you're left with a bricked sysNAND even though you might have been able to restore a previous sysNAND backup from OTPHelper if you didn't exit it)), you have the possibility to hardmod and recover from your brick, and that's when you really need to call for help, not now ;)

But yeah, if you're really not confident, it's your choice. And it's probably easier to find someone willing to install a9lh than someone willing to hardmod.

If you post it to me (Canberra) I'll do it for $40.
Or I can help you through it by PM or text message for free :-) It isn't as hard as it looks.
I'll keep it in mind. Might be heading up to Canberra sometime. In the meanwhile, I'd prefer it to be local.

Ahh, I see. I've heard about some CTRNand development which involves flashing an O3DS 2.1 NAND directly to a N3DS SysNAND, and apparently it's safer. Do you know anything about this?

Eh, I don't know about all the scene stuff :P

But basically now, instead of downgrading the sysNAND, you downgrade the emuNAND (which you can easily backup and restore as long as your sysNAND works) with as many tries as you want, until you're sure it's on a correct 2.1, then OTPHelper does more checks, unbricks on N3DS, puts that on sysNAND, checks again. If a check fails before you sent the 2.1 on sysNAND, you still have a working sysNAND. If the last check failed after you sent the 2.1 on sysNAND, you're still in OTPHelper and you can restore a backup. So that's why I say really, nothing should go wrong as long as you do everything without stressing (and skipping steps) or panicking (exiting OTPHelper when it would have helped you).
And once on 2.1, you only have to go to a website to install a9lh so you shouldn't have problems there. And once a9lh is installed, you can recover from anything so everything is ok :D

Isn't that the current method?

I work full time and study part time, so I don't have enough spare time to work for free :-p Reading and replying to forums counts as fun time, so that's free.

Yes, I was describing the current method, to say that it's safe.
Now that you say so, it's true that the way I quoted and answered, it seems like I'm talking about the things in development he's talking about...
I edited three words in my post to make my thoughts clear. I should re-read everytime I post instead of creating misunderstandings...

I tend to agree that the initial downgrade to 9.2 is the riskiest part. Everything afterward is pretty simple and straightfoward, just time consuming. The process has you make quite a few backups and copy them to the PC between steps. I like to also leave these on the SD card until everything is done if possible, especially emuNAND_original.bin, to lessen the chance of the backups corrupting while transferring back and forth.
