Hi! I haven't messed around with CFW since way back in January of this year. I still consider myself illiterate when it comes to hacking/programming, so please bear with me.

Background: Been using RxTools, on RX-E 10.5.0-30U emuNAND, and 9.2.0-2U sysNAND. I keep backups and copies of my NAND's and every file/payload/firmware, whatever I use. My system boots into menuhax, then into gridlauncher, from where I can choose to boot into RxTools.

I've installed quite a few GBA and DSi games onto my emuNAND. The GBA games are installed to both, emuNAND and sysNAND. If I move to a9lh/luma, do I need to still keep it installed on both emuNAND and sysNAND or just one?

I remember changing the firmware to be able to run GBA games in RxTools, but don't remember how I did it. I don't remember if I had to do anything for the DSi firmware, so I have no idea what the TWL firmware is for that, and I don't have that firmware file among everything else I've done. But I do have DSi ware installed on my 2DS (Shantae Risky's Revenge, Four Swords Anniversary addition, Mario v DK, etc.). I tried using 3DNUS 1.9 to find the old AGB firmware, but I don't know the version number. And once I do get the old firmware, do I have to delete the firmware modifications I already have or just install over it? I forgot how to do it, and how to look for it in FBI and 3DNUS...

I don't use the eShop at all. The last time I used it, my CFW messed up. I don't know what exactly happened, but I reformatted my SD card and started from scratch. End result, I have a perfectly working 2DS with emuNAND and sysNAND on RxTools with the firmware versions listed above. However, I don't update my console (b/c RxTools doesn't support it) and avoid the eShop and any internet related feature like the plague. I would like to use a CFW-enabled 2DS with full internet features, but I fear bricking b/c of future update incompatibilities; if anyone can help me in figuring out how to have a CFW and use the most current online play features, I'd be grateful

I wanted to try to move over to a9lh/luma so that I can get flawless boot rates and overclock my 2DS. However, I don't know if I'll brick my console because of all the things I've already done. For one thing, I know I've changed the firmware for installing/running AGB, I just don't know how and what problems that can bring. I also have FBI installed on my emuNAND, along with Big Blue Manager; I've noticed FBI installs better with less hassle than BBM. Are there any other incompatibilities or brick risks I should be made aware of? I was following Pialect's guide, and it seems easier to follow if no modifications were done to the system.

Thanks a tonne for the help! I tried the Settings > Other Settings > DS Profile for entering into the Gateway Mode but it failed! What I just successfully did is to use the web browser to get into Gateway Mode :) I am very outdated with all the current information that's out there, do you mind sharing with me what Luma3DS is, what the benefits are and how I can go about getting it? Because I do intend to play some other games as well! :)
luma3ds is the new cfw that everyone is worshiping. It is more stable, and kept up to date. You will need to update to 9.2 though. Guides for that can be found here: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/ under the 9.2.0 update section. If you are planning on continuing to use your ds, it is highly recommended that you look into the process of converting (most of what you need should be in that wiki somewhere). Doing a9lh and the 2.1 downgrade isn't required, but it is recommended as you no longer need to have an emunand, and you can safely update sysnand after the process is complete.

I think I may have made a big boo-boo somewhere along the way. I (finally) upgraded to the latest Luma w/arm9loaderhax and everything was where it was supposed to be but I kept getting the 022-2634 error when trying to access the eShop, I googled around it said format then restore (I used the same emuNAND_original.bin from section IV of part 5) and after restoring I get the error again, I checked it after formatting but before restoring and it worked fine. And now all my games are missing even though they were there when I used this exact emuNAND before, for the record the file system and folders for it are setup how they were it's just all the games have gone missing.

Is there anyway to fix both the 022-2634 eShop error and the missing games problem I'm having? Knowing me it's something really simple and obvious that I'm missing, or I'm screwed.

I noticed I had 2 robinpayloads in the root of my SD. Is that normal? I have O3DS 9.2 sysNAND and 11.0.33 on my emuNAND.

The robinpayload file names are this:
- ropbinpayload_menuhax_USA12288_old3ds
- ropbinpayload_menuhax_USA20480_old3ds

I also have the following:
- hblauncherloader_otherapp_payload_OLD-11-0-0-33-USA.bin

Having an issue getting connected to the site linked by qr code for browserhax. Both on the ds, and to pull up the directions on a pc.. Am I experiencing an isolated issue?

This payload, hblauncherloader_otherapp_payload_OLD-11-0-0-33-USA.bin, is for the Homebrew Launcher cia that you have installed on your Home Menu. I'm not sure about the menuhax payloads though.

Browserhax might be down right now.

I have downloaded the JKSV Save Manager, however I have no idea of how to work with it. Do you know if there's a tutorial or anything? What I have done was basically copying the data from the Old SD Card into the New SD Card.
You have to boot into the NAND that the saves were made on. Then on JKSM you backup the saves. You copy the folder it makes to the other 3ds or SD card, then restore the saves.
The raw files from the SD card are no good because they are encrypted to only be read by the console that made them.

I'm sorry, but as a noob I really have no idea of how to do so :( I'll kindly ask for some guidance on that, please :)

Boot into the NAND your games appear on. Eg if it's an emuNAND on some SD card, make sure the original Nintendo 3DS folder is on that SD card, as well as JKSM.3dsx in the 3ds folder and any files you need to boot with. Boot into the emuNAND and open homebrew however you normally do it, choose JKSM go to CIAs and choose the game you want to back up and back it up. Or there's an option to backup all games I believe. JKSM will create a folder on your SD card, take it and put it on the SD card of the console you want to restore the saves to. Open JKSM and choose to restore saves (either each game one at a time or there is probably an option to restore all at once).

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I have followed Plailect guide, and did everything so my 3DSXL now has Luma, etc...

Thing is, I had some downloaded games in another SD Card, and their save files. If I redownload the games and copy the data from my old SD Card to the one that is being used, will I be able to retrieve the saved games? I'd hate to lose the progress in some games...
I just found your original post.

Did you ever format your system (either tinyformat or through system settings) between restoring the original NAND and now? If not, you can just copy the Nintendo 3DS folder onto your current SD card and you should have all your games and saves. If you did, you will have to restore a backup of the NAND that the games worked with. If you don't have a backup, then your saves are gone, sorry.

Yes, I have backed up SysNAND, I have both SysNAND_original.bin and SysNAND_original.bin.sha.

So, all I need to do, is boot on EmuNand9, load the original SysNAND, instead of the CFW one, and then backup using the JKSM?

Yep, so this is what I'd do:
1. Boot into emuNAND9 on your normal SD card and choose format SD card for emuNAND
2. When it gives you the option to switch cards, do so for a new SD card.
3. When finished, unmount SD card and put in your computer and copy sysNAND_original.bin and .sha onto it.
4. I can't remember if emuNAND9 has a backup restore function, if it does remount the card and choose to restore sysnand_original.bin to emuNAND. If not, put back the original card and boot to hourglass9 or decrypt9 and swap cards when you get the option.
5. Copy onto the new SD card the original Nintendo 3DS folder that had your games and saves, and the a9lh files (arm9loaderhax.bin and the luma folder) and JKSM in the 3ds folder.
6. Hold Select on boot so you get the Luma config menu.
7. Choose options that let you boot emuNAND
8. Start to reboot
9. Now access JKSM through whatever homebrew access you usually use
10. Choose to backup all cia game saves
11. Copy the folder it makes to the old SD card
12. Put the old SD card back and start up
13. Go to JKSM and restore all cia game saves.

I have sysnand 9.2, and I have my emunand as RX-E 10.2.0-28U. (rxTools). Am I able to safely update emunand and go online? Do I need to update sysnand at all to update to the latest emunand?

It is safe to update, but you should switch to luma 3ds. RxTools is outdated and may be broken by a future update.
Note: you will probably need an archive manager like winrar or 7zip (if on windows, idk what you will need on mac, linux should be fine though) to extract the files for

Setting up a bootmanager for menuhax and homebrew (so you can use homebrew and cfw automatically if you have not) (The next steps assume that you do not just use the normal homebrew launcher to boot cfw, if you do, you can skip this if you want)

0a. If you are using a boot manager (i dont remember the name of it, but it has a purple screen last time i used it) you should have a file called boot.cfg in the root of your sd card. This will be replaced later, but if you do see this, skip to step 1, if not...
0b. You may be using rxtools.3dsx as the boot.3dsx (you will likely boot right into rxtools if you hold select). You will want to switch over to a boot manager. (So you have access to cfw booting and homebrew when you need it)
0c. If you are using the homebrew launcher, and it is up to date or the grid launcher, rename it to boot_hb.3dsx to save a step
1. Download the file at the bottom of the first post from here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/ctrbootmanager-3ds-boot-manager-loader-homemenuhax.398383/
2. Drag both files to the root of your sd card, let everything overwrite
3. Open the boot.cfg and change everything called Reinand to Luma3ds. Leave everything else alone.
4. Download the latest homebrew launcher, rename it to boot_hb.3dsx and put it in the root of your sd card

Setting up luma

1. Delete the rxtools folder, the rxtools folder in /3ds/ and rxtools.dat
2. Download the latest release of luma3ds from here: https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/releases (don't download dev unless you actually need it for something (you most likely do not)
3. Drag the 3ds folder, luma folder, and luma3DS.dat (all in the download) to the root of your sd card
4. Turn your ds on and see if everything is working fine. You should have a 3 second boot time, you can change this in the cfg or "more... > settings > timeout" use left and right to change it
5. If you do not forget to copy files over (like me :() then you should see Luma3ds v5.5-something configuration. Go ahead and setup what you want on there (do not check autoboot sysnand)
6. Press start and you should be good to go

If I forgot something, or are confused, let me know where you are at and I will try to clarify it.

I'm using themehax 1.3 but I'm having trouble booting into luma3DS. Is there a different bootloader I should download? If so, what is the best bootloader to get?

Need help here! When I first installed a CFW(Reinand) I had to replace the files in the dbs folder on the SD card which caused the games that I had downloaded before to disappear but it didn't bother me at the time since the CFW worked and I downloaded the CIAs that I wanted to play. But today I decided to try to get the old games back and stupidly replaced the dbs file with the old one without backing up the current one because I still had the dbs file from before I installed the CIAs. The old games appeared but the CIA didnt so I went back and put the other dbs file back and installed the CIAs again.

Now the problem is that I lost the savedata on the CIAs and I was in the middle of playing one of them with over 20 hours in the game. Is there a way to restore the savefile or am I screwed? Cuz I really dont want to play through 20 hours again.

Note that the only file I replaced is the dbs file.

I feel dumb for asking as I've asking this before, but what's the best method to upgrade SD cards?

Own a 32gb, just bought a 64gb. Best way to transfer the data over?
(If you have an emunand) Copy the bare minimum needed to boot your console to the new sd card (after it has been formatted). This will be the latest version of emunand9, whatever payloads you need to boot cfw, your nintendo 3ds folder for sysnand, etc. Use emunand9 to format your sd card to emunand and all that (it should auto do a emunand partition and 64kb clusters). While that is going on, copy all the files from your old sd card to your pc (including emunand, you should be able to copy emunand from your pc). Once all that is complete, just copy the files onto the new sd card, and put the emunand.bin into /emunand9 or /files9/emunand9 (idk which one will be used), launch emunand9 and select copy emunand.bin to emunand.

Nah I'm running Luma with a9lh, but I went back and found my old post where someone told me what to do in my case. Format new SD card using Emunand9 (no emunand option) and just drag and drop all the files over to the newly formatted card

So I'm stuck on rxTools. When I try to boot into Luma3DS from themehax 1.3 or an old version of homemenuhax it just shows a black screen. When I try to update homemenuhax to 3.0 from the github download I get the "error failed to load from SD 0x00000002" and it won't connect via HTTP. It says I have to update my 3DS to use the web browser for browserhax (on emunand). How can I get Luma3DS working?
