If it's the wrong forum to ask, i apologize in advance. Feel free to move it in that case.

Everybody and their gramps is telling me to get a 3DS, so i might consider picking up one next month. However since theres a 60 bucks difference between the old and the new model i would like to get some advice on which one I should get.

While i would pay for some games, the goal would be to be a dirty pirate for the majority of the time, so i I would like to enable homewbrew stuff and backup loading.

Thanks for any useful information and have a nice day!

The new 3ds is nice because it has better processing power. It loads some games faster (Like smash bros) and has Snes virtual console (if you are someone who likes to have stock games instead of emulators). I have a N3ds XL and I love it but if you would want to save $60 then just get an old 3ds.

Either way I would highly suggest getting an XL unless you have small hands :P

Also if you want to pirate games make sure that the 3ds you are buying is on an older firmware

And to answer your question, I think this would be more well suited for the 3ds console/hardware section

I would suggest getting the normal model unless you have huge hands. Smaller screens might sound like a drawback until you witness the blurry stretchiness of the XL. It's lighter, too.

Aight, so a New 3DS it is. Is there any way to figure out the firmware prior to buying/unpacking it?
Try to go for "new" buys from places that don't shift stock too often, and avoid refurbished models. Pre-owned too.

and nobody brings up the tons of emulation support the n3ds adds, like final fantasy 7 is totally playable. Also xenoblade chronicles is literally my shit. And yea ntr streaming is amazing. Also tip replacing the c-stick with a psp stick takes 3 seconds, and it really pays off. All you need is your fingernail, and it feels really nice.

Frankly speaking, I enjoyed XCX a ton more and didn't understand why everyone was so hyped about the first game, so getting the eshop version and playing it once is enough for me.

The most noticeable advantage is SNES VC. Besides that there are a small number of games exclusive to N3DS, as well as a decent handful that take advantage of the extra CPU power and/or extra controls.
