Not sure if here's the right section to post the question. So now I've downloaded a Devil Survivor 2 Undub cia which is just a bit over 4gb which of course wouldn't copy to the sd card because of the file size limit. I'm curious if there's anyway to get around it such as trimming or install over the network? Thanks!

Hmm...I take it that you are using a 4GB ~ 8GB SD card ?

If you are doing CIA downloads, copy, and installs...I would recommend upgrading to at least a 32GB card.

Currently, this one should work for your purposes if using a Old 3DS :

No my sd card is big enough, 64gb actually. The problem is fat32 file system doesn't allow single file size over 4gb thus I'm trying to find a way to get around it.

Hmm...that is interesting ^_^"

Usually a person could copy and paste a CIA file from their PC to their SD card...and later install it to the system.

But yeah, as stated above, there are a few ways/programs to work around this.

What .cia file weights more then 4gbs? as far as i know, no .cia game its bigger then 4gb, its a trimmed game, so unless its a high custom rom, then it would be bigger then 4gb.

I never heard of this... Also what @ScarletDreamz said, WHAT CIA FILE IS OVER 4GB? I doubt any 3DS Game is that big.

I have a 32GB sd card with Xenoblade Chronicles Backed up on it, and one is over 6GB. So Something is fishy.

Inazuma Eleven has some games over 4GB iirc
No they dont, biggest game of them its trimmed size is 3541544960, which is 3.54154496 Gygabytes.

Biggest 3DS officialy, its Xenoblade Chronicles 3D for New 3ds, wich is 3994570752 already trimmed, which is 3.994570752 Gygabytes. so no, there's no 4gb cia games. AFAIK.

Oops, actually upon further inspection, the file is actually a .3ds file which is over 4gb. It's Devil Surivor 2 undub. The original ENG version is already well over 3gb so I guess the audio files increased the size. Now I need to convert it to cia format and will that shrink the size? Also can it be done on computer? Because 4gb file won't copy to sd card anyways in the first place.

Yes, its done on the PC, since the .3ds file does not need to be on the SD card. search on this forum, .3ds to cia. or use google a little ;D

@hbkmog

Yeah, I had to check the size on "3dsdb"...but a modded ".3ds" file could explain the large file size.

Above should be posted the solution to your problem.

Do reply back if you are successful or not.

According to the tutorial,

6) Create A New Folder In The root Of Your SD Card And Name It "D9Game"
7) Copy And Paste Your .3ds Rom To sd:\D9Game
8) Remove The SD Card From Your Computer

You still have to copy the .3ds file to the SD card which isn't possible for game over 4gb.
Any other way around it?

EDIT: I'm going to try the Simple CIA Converter method and see how it goes.

You can trimm the .3ds with 3DS Rom Tool, and the gui provided: https://gbatemp.net/threads/3ds-rom-tool-rom_tool.349314/page-8

Okay converted the .3ds rom to .cia and it's now 3.6gb. Gonna try to install over network option since I can't be bothered to open the back cover for just one game and it's slow to install such large cia file anyways. Will report back.

EDIT: wow... the network installation is a lot slower than I expected. It's basically 0.25mb/s... I guess I might as well remove the back cover...
