Does anyone know where the catsfc core went? I see there are 4 different snes9x cores, did they rename to one of those or..?

If they dropped it what is the recommended core? I mostly play the popular titles. (Mario +romhacks, metroid etc.)
CATSFC is now snes9x_2005. God knows why they've gone with the new confusing naming scheme. So, snes9x_2005 is the recommended core.

I think it is less confussing now, because now they show on what these cores are based instand of having random sounding names.
While CATSFC is based on Snes9x 1.43, it has tons of modifications and optimisations to make the emulator run faster. It was originally designed for the DSTwo cartridge, after all. It's quite heavily optimised. The same goes for pocketSnes, which is based on Snes9x 1.36 and even more heavily optimised.

It's quite misleading to label it as simply a revision of Snes9x from a certain year, because they aren't. And also does a bit of a disservice to the developers who worked on CATSFC and pocketSnes.

God knows why. But it seems to be a global change now for the RetroArch nightlies regardless of platform (Wii nightlies have the same names now).
I think it's because, like with MAME, the year difference is supposed to indicate which cores are further developed and thus less optimized...?

Because for a first timer to emulation, the difference between "CatSFC", "SNES9x Next", and "PocketSNES" would all look the same. But with "Snes9x 2002", "Snes9x 2005", and "Snes9x 2010", you could theoretically decipher that "Oh, the earlier the year, the faster the games will run!"

I suggest trying SNES9x2010 first. If the game does not run at full speed then go down to 2005+, then 2005, and last to 2002. Try to avoid 2002, unless that's the only one running a game at full speed.

Snes9x 2005 v1.36, SNES Emulator (Formerly known as CatSFC)

Thanks, hopefully upgrading will retain all settings/save states etc. but I guess it won't since they changed the name...

edit: It seems to have updated fine retaining all settings, incl saves etc. It only created a new extra icon which is fine.

Bad idea, as Snes9x 2010 doesn't run well.

Recommended to use Snes9x 2005+, and 2005(stock) as a fallback, as 2002 is rather redundant on the Vita. Snes9x (stock) runs all standard games (That work to begin with) at full speed now.
Also... this is what the performance estimations on the main OP are for.

Sorry if this has already been asked, way too much to read through. Is there a way to change the controls? I can't stand the Japanese controls with A/B reversed.

Nevermind figured it out.

You really should use the latest nightlys from mGBA instand of gpSP.

Quite.

We finally got new builds.
Some core filesizes have changed, but otherwise... I don't see much of a discernable difference.
Already existing bad cores are still unusable, and no new options are showing themselves.

On the latest fceumm nes core 8/12 22:14

The app crashes when I load a rom , I get error C2-12828-1
I deleted and reinstalled the vpk multiple times and still crashes when loading a non zipped rom .nes
It always worked before this latest update , I had to go back to 8/10 version

Anybody else getting this error with the latest fceumm nes core ?

Edit:
The error also says
"Saved core file succeeded , ux0:data/psp2core and eboot.bin.psp2dmp at the end

I believe Libretro will tweet or post somewhere when they get gpsp and Mame working.
Twinaphex, an admin on the libretro forums, mentioned not even bothering to try them until they said they worked.

Can confirm this issue. fceumm is broken.

Here are some icons for Retroarch. I've basically taken the icon pack that was posted on Reddit way back when, and renamed them to match the latest 13th August nightly. Copy these folders into ur0:/appmeta/ (NOT ux0:/appmeta/) and restart your console. Not all the cores have icons.

These will only work on the LATEST nightly. This is because every time a new core is added, all the titleIDs get shifted and this messes up the icons too (thus, older builds with less cores have different titleIDs). I'll try to update the icons when this happens. Since FCEUmm is broken in the latest nightly, I've repacked an older version of FCEUmm with the newer titleID and LiveArea images.

EDIT - Links fixed.
