As we know, Sony will hold an event in New York on September 7, called PlayStation Meeting. Although there is nothing official about the contents of this event, it seems that the announcement of PlayStation Neo is quite certain but the news may not stop there. According to its appearance on the famous NeoGaf forum, Sony could also unveil a new model of PlayStation Vita renamed Trilogy. This new version of the handheld console from Sony could be released to coincide with the release of PlayStation Neo.

Would this change the sales of Vita? Or would this be a failure?

tbh I don't think Sony has anything planned for the Vita. If they do (and that seems highly unlikely), I'm practically sure it will be some kind of "cheap" Vita, like Ninty did with the Wii Mini or the GameBoy Micro.

The PS TV was Sony's last attempt to jump start the Vita in the west. Since this is an American based conference, I highly doubt Sony wants anything to do with the Vita. They wrote that handheld off way back in 2013. Now a successor on the other hand...that could be something.
Didn't they say a successor to the Vita isn't planned because of the rise of mobile gaming some time ago?

Reinvigorating the vita would be easy. All they have to do is release a slew of first party AAA titles, and bring the 64gb memory card to the US with a street price of 29.99. Done. Bonus points for killing the whitelist.

If this becomes a reality (which I somewhat doubt for reasons highlighted by Chary), I'm going to brand "Jackass" in big, bold lettering on my forehead because I only just swapped my 1000 model for a 2000 the other day, and still had some money left at the end of the purchase! >_< ~ I suppose wasn't to know about this recent announcement, so I'll let myself off lightly...

But anyway, I'm not really seeing the point of why Sony would want to waste brain-juice and resources all just towards another Vita model. I thought the Vita already lost first-party support surrounding its games and content anyway, let alone the entire product?
Not saying it would be a bad move or anything; I just find it a tad confusing as to why Sony would want to do this, because many users already lost faith in the Vita quite a while back.

I dunno... I can see the Vita picking back up with another model; it just needs to be a really pleasing and promising model to gain back the bigger audience it used to have.
