Hacking ELI5, what needs to be accomplished in the Wii U scene to achieve "installable" homebrew?

I'm aware of the need to wait and be patient for the scene to progress. I'm not prodding or complaining about the way things are going at all, I know things take time and effort and love the way things are finally starting to get rolling around here. My question is, what in the state of things right now is missing, in layman's terms, that is preventing "installable" / offline homebrew in the vain of what's possible on the Wii and on 3DS? I'm just curious since I don't understand the exploit very well.

this is false... iosu wont allow you to install anything... you need a much higher permission in the chain, iosu would basicaly give you more permissions and usb acess but that is all you would still need to run the iosu exploit everytime the wiiu botted up, people are delusional here and made up things, you need a boot exploit so you can modify the wiiu early in the boot acess like the 3ds has arm9loaderhax, wiiu iosu alone would never allow you to install anything and still needed the browser every single time.

So to sum up: iosu -> launch cfw with signature patched (from the SD card?) -> install homebrews on the wii u menu!
That's OK?

Or do it like on the 3DS.
Find a way to launch an exploit which boots a EmuNAND which has sigchecks disabled.
Easier said than done... It worked on 3DS so why should it be impossible on WiiU?

no one is saying its impossible but saying the iosu wouldnt make it happen, on the 3ds you could launch th exploit from a hacked save game but on wiiu you would still need to use the browser every time, and iosu alone wouldnt really do it.

you would still need to use the brwoser then launch iosu then do whatever you want but nothing will be installed on wiiu menu with iosu permissions.

Yep, that's true.
For now, the Browser is okay...
But it would be cool to boot into a sigpatched EmuNAND (even if it's through the browser) where you could install stuff to the HomeMenu.
Let's wait for a IOSU-Exploit which will allow some of this features and a Exploit which disables Sigchecks in EmuNAND.
(Have a NAND-Backup of my WiiU already ^3^)

I know, i know... The only solution is to use a wii u emunand (with signature check patched), or to find an equivalent of arm9loaderhax for the wii u . But yeah, if we install custom things on the ofw wii u menu, it will break it.

If an emunand is present on the sd and the browser auto loads the page like mine does. I would boot my wiiu and click on browser and it would boot me to an emunand with stuff installable to home menu. It'll be like the early days of 3ds hacking where no one cared about sysnand. Emunand becomes your main home menu and everything will be installable to it. No one will mind taking 1 minute to boot the browser first. That's if any of this ever becomes possible at all

Edit: I may be stupid and just repeating what your saying.

Ok, so what you are saying is, the IOSU doesn't allow it, but IOSU is the key to making it possible? Laymen's terms is what the OP asked for. Obviously permissions won't magically install homebrew to the Wii U. But for all intents and purposes, right now it's safe to say IOSU is what is keeping us from getting there.

the whole point of this thread was the OP saying what is missing from installing stuff permanently without using the browser exploit everytime, and people awnsered iosu wich is false, iosu doesnt do a permanently patch to run stuff or allow stuff to be installed on home menu, sure you could use emunand on the SD but nothing would ever be permanent with iosu alone you would have to do the browser exploit every single time so yeah its missing much more than iosu alone, that is my awnser to the OP iosu alone wont make it happen.

You seem more keen on what is going on with the hacking than I. If we can get IOSU access, we should be able to (theoretically) get a pre-boot hack placed onto the Wii U's NAND which would make it possible to modify permissions every time the Wii U turns on automatically, correct? Like in the background? After that we would then be able to do the stuff OP is asking about. I know I'm really oversimplifying the process, but that's the jist, correct?

no we cant, hyken before he disapeared was exploit a call that was very early on boot acess and he already had iosu down but the call wasnt exploitable, just becuase you have iosu you dont get to exploit earlier calls since those already passed, with or without iosu makes no diferent you need to find an exploitable bug on a very early call on bootup and then you could make that call launch iosu or kernel or whatever before the wiiu menu booted iosu doesnt make an earlier call exploitable at all, iosu is something with more permissions than kernel that you could make that boot exploit launch before wiiu menu.

hope i was clear enough.

there is no boot exploit ebing worked on afaik.

Well..

Shit. Lol looks like there must have been an exploitable call on load of the OS. xD
no it doesnt lol he just launched iosu from the browser wich launched emunand you can do that i never said emunand needs bootexploit for the contrary the 3ds has done that since foreveer and only recently did the 3ds got a boot exploit.

of course on wiiu you would need to use the browser exploit every single time to acess the emunand after each reset.
