Is it possible to play backups from a DVD-R on vWii mode instead of from SD/USB? It's much cheaper for me to go out and buy DVD-R's as the biggest USB I have is 8gb. And don't tell me to go buy bigger ones >.<
I thought DVD support died with old vWii and Wii firmwares. Yeah you can do something like this.
afaik the Wii U rejects anything but original Wii U and Wii discs
Okay, I won't tell you to buy a bigger USB.And don't tell me to go buy bigger ones >.<

I'd do some research before you buy them. Those cards may be poor quality, or they may be slow (which if you don't care about r/w speed, then go ahead ).Thanks everyone ^-^ Seems like I can't... oh well. Found a couple of super cheap 64gb USBs on Amazon so I'll be grabbing them!

Honestly every USB I've ever tried (I'd say 20+) worked on the vWii. Even the crappy ones.Read my stickied guide, I would think hard before settling with thumbdrives. They are known to give people issues. Get an actual USB Hard Drive.
it's not the "laser eyes" it is the DVD drives logic board in later wii's you are thinking of , it is called a non d2e drive ,i think the non d2e drives are the ones that can read burned discs ,if you do not have a non d2e drive you can not read burned discs with a wii ,games or dvd movies, you can however swap out the drives logic board in a d2e drive for one that is non d2e and make it read burned discs though , it's not the laser it's something in the dvd drives firmware chip that prevents burned dvd discs from reading not just games either movies or anything on a burned disc will not read, also i think it only reads dvd-r not dvd+r burned discsYou thought it died because I'm pretty certain it did. Someone should fact check me on this, but I'm pretty certain the laser eyes in Wii U's and later Wii's do not have DVD support. Wii games are based on DVD technology but they aren't exactly like them -- same as how Wii U games are based off Blu-Rays but are still a proprietary format.
