The picture on my Wii is very dim; I think there's something wrong with the A/V connector. (I've tried multiple cables, both composite and component, plugged into different ports on the TV, etc.) I don't think it's fixable, and I'm considering buying another Wii and moving all my data over, if possible.

I've already got the Homebrew Channel installed. Can I do a NAND backup on my current Wii and then do a restore on another Wii, or will that not work? If that won't work, what are my other options for getting all my saves, VC games, etc. onto a different machine?

I could get a Wii U and copy my data to it, but I'd prefer not to, for a couple of reasons. One is that I've got an original-model Wii and can play GameCube games on it, and I'd prefer to keep it that way. (This is not 100% necessary as I also own a GameCube, but I still prefer having the option of playing on the Wii instead of having to hook up another console.) Another is that I've heard that in a lot of cases the VC emulation on the Wii U is inferior to the original Wii.

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Thanks; SaveGame Manager GX looks like a good start that will help with the saves and Miis but not downloaded games (VC, WiiWare, etc.). Is there a program I can use to back those up from my current Wii and restore them to the new one, or is my best shot with those just to find them online (WAD files or however they're stored), download them, and install them on the new machine?

Standard disclaimer: I'm not asking for links to ROM sites, and I'm not advocating piracy; I'm only talking about games I've already bought and paid for.

From what I understand you cannot use a NAND from one Wii and restore it onto another Wii. Not sure what would happen if you tried though. Do some searching for something called Save Game Manager GX (https://gbatemp.net/threads/savegame-manager-gx.210111/). This might be what you are looking for.
you can only in 3 steps, and without the games: you'll need nand A and it's cryptkey to decrypt the nand you wanna use for the other one, and you'll need only the crypt file of the other, but in the process we'll need to format the nand and the crypt files are harder to get, and not possible to get if a wii bricked... so as far as i have tried it only helped me once to fix a wii.

Thanks; that sounds promising. Is there somewhere I can find more information on the process (getting the keys, decrypting the data, re-encrypting it with the new key (I assume), etc.)?
download the nads with bootmii or:
http://wiibrew.org/wiki/RealWnD
then check the following tools one by one:
http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Punetwiin
http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Betwiin
http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Ohneschwanzenegger
http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Getwiinandkey
you might not need all of these but they give a picture of what's needed.
oh and before reusing that created nand: http://wiibrew.org/wiki/NandBinCheck (saves you from a brick if process was somehow incomplete)

Thanks. I gather from that Betwiin page that the Wii Shop account data won't transfer over, so my VC/WiiWare games won't run? I was kinda hoping for a way to get everything working on the new system and not lose anything, but if there's no way of doing that then there's no way of doing that.

You could use BlueDump to make WADs of them then use those on the other Wii via EmuNAND or NEEK.

since when those are installed they only into the nand of the old wii and so has only the right of that wii... it wouldn't work anyway, but you can dumb all those games and channels see:

and your saves can get copied to sd-card via the system settings or with savegame manager gx.

You could make a backup of your nand and then use that backup as an Emunand on your new system and play all the games you have installed on it through a loader like USB Loader GX. This way you still keep alp the games you have and don't have to go through the trouble of finding out how to install them to the real nand of your new system.

Thanks Clutz450, the EmuNAND method sounds like it might be the way to go. I picked up a second Wii today on a 4th of July sale.

I've never done the EmuNAND thing before and it's been years since I softmodded my Wii; what should I look at for how to do it? I see the How to Softmod a Wii guide; do I really need to track down an old SD, not SDHC, card? (If so, I must have one around here somewhere if I did it once already, but damned if I know where; the card currently sitting in my original Wii is a 16GB SDHC card.)

And once that's done, what do I do to get EmuNAND set up? Is ModMii the way to go? How do I use it to run a backup NAND from my original Wii?

And I've currently got an external hard drive and the aforementioned SDHC card with my backups and other info on them. Can I just move those into the new Wii?

Sorry for so many questions; thanks for all your help so far.

Try the SDHC card before you turn your house upside-down. It may work. :)

If you just want EmuNAND you can use USB Loader GX or Wiiflow to dump yours and you don't need anything else. ModMii is easier to build NEEK kernels.

Your existing homebrew and backups should work on another Wii. I don't think any homebrew except the Devolution GC loader locks stuff to a specific console.
