What are the main sites you'll find Tempers on?

I mean, because around 30% of my site's user base comes from GBAtemp, I'm wondering if there's sites that are similar in that way, in that there's quite a few Tempers.

Well I know DS-Scene.net because it has all the banned ones on it :)

There have been attempts to establish enclaves of GBAtemp on other sites. They did not take.
Equally not many people advertise their membership of GBAtemp like they might pimp a youtube channel. Not to mention most people on GBAtemp do not link their facebook/reddit/linkedin/whatever accounts around here, a few might link a fun youtube channel rather than their serious one but not many.

Chatting on ROM sites today seems about as strange to most I speak to as chatting on porn sites. I know that is how GBAtemp started* and I know there is some discussion (mostly how do I get this to work and is there anything else like this) on ROM sites but not to the same extent.
A while ago I did history of the GBA and DS scene as misremembered by FAST6191 ( http://gbatemp.net/threads/does-gbatemp-have-a-rival-forum.355250/page-2#post-4785064 ), much the same applies and there are not really any different "rivals" that rose up and a few of those also morphed into archive sites or vanished entirely.

*one wonders whether it was a gap in the market.

Some of that might also explain why a little forum with a nice portal can survive in a world where reddit aspires to be every forum for everything and be basically unmoderated and facebook made reasonable moves in that area before then. The only thing I came up with is that though great man history might not be great for world history it does mean things for websites. GBAtemp being one of the ones that did attract people that do new things, solve interesting puzzles and don't just regurgitate things they read elsewhere.

Speaking for myself I guess I am on romhacking.net as well. I am however pretty meh on any other type of social media and tend to just think I will catch the next one (reddit is just the new digg which was just the new slashdot... which was just the new usenet text groups, never got twitter at all, facebook is just the new myspace/bebo, I still delete my videos after making them like I am recording them to vhs and have this wonderful thing called bookmarks so no youtube for me).

I thought about this a few times in the past actually. I have been tempted to take one of those jobs in China that stands a chance of leaving you stranded there*. After I make it back to the world in a decade or so I would love to find out what happened to my beloved GBAtemp (it is gone in this scenario) and actually would have no simple solution to that beyond go on flash cart/emulator sites and ask.

*I love survival shows on TV, often times though you will see the presenter say "I would love to kill that deer/elk/some nice herbivorous thing, eat its brains and gain its knowledge, but I am here voluntarily so I can't do that". I would view deliberately taking something I know will strand me there similarly, I get stranded in a metaphorical plane crash and I will be the deer skin king of south China.
