I've been having problems using cheat codes with some games, while running the last official version of FCE Ultra GX. I'd like to know if there are any other functional NES emulators for the Wii, besides FCEU-GX?
Yeah. I'm having the same exact problem with Double Dragon. I hear that it's common. It's a little annoying because I have no idea which games work and which don't. I know it's the associated cheat file that's causing the problem but I don't know why. Because the cheats haven't even been activated yet. It's like every game automatically checks for a cheat file upon initial boot up instead of waiting for me to decide if I want to access the cheats or not.is this your issue portugeek?
Thanks, randomizer. Are you referring to a standalone app or a Retroarch core? I'm not a fan of Retroarch on the Wii.
And it's definitely the .cht file that was causing the problem. I found another .cht file that works. It has less cheats available, and they're all ON by default for some reason, but at least it works now.
To be honest i agree with this statement, Retroarch is indeed a great and well done thing and the gui is fairly not noob friendly for the reasons why people do not use it, I have used it before for stuff like wonderswan and final burn alpha, but then when i use it on android, it got way too hard to navigate, but it indeed works well as it promises.RetroArch gets a lot of flack because of the GUI, which is the way it is since the Wii has a very finite amount of usable memory and resources, Wii U version should be in the works. Sorry for the bad advice about RetroArch though.

I would like to see it used more and more as a definite emulator thing, but people make stand alone emulators easy to use like ZSNES and FCEUltra, and VBA and such, so i guess is whatever the person is comfortable with why he decides to use what he use.
To help reslove the problem you could use a game genie rom in place of the gui txt file cheat method. But you would only be limited to 3 cheats only and also No fds games i think. Hope that helps.
Maybe check the txt cheat file is formatted right or the codes are correct.
I wasn't aware of that, i don't even know what libretro is, but i heard it is used for various reasons like porting freeware games to consoles, like cave story and maybe streets of rage remake. Besides that, is not bad emulator and i do check for updates to see if any new stuff is done. So is always a good surprise to find new updates for me.The main problem with RetroArch is the GUI.
As the developers themselves say, RetroArch is merely a reference frontend for libretro. So it isn't meant to be used as some be-all-end-all emulator. libretro itself is the emulator, but people are meant to make their own, better frontends for it.
Some people might like the GUI, but I personally hate it. It's really cluttered and ugly. In my opinion the basis of a good GUI is user friendliness and ease of use and RetroArch lacks both.RetroArch's GUI is only a problem on hardware with limited memory resources. RetroArch's GUI on Windows is fantastic. I've already stopped using all other emulators on my PC and exclusively use RetroArch. And it's not like I have a high end machine. My PC is a 7yr old machine. So it doesn't need amazing power, but it needs more than what the Wii has to offer.
The most recent 1.3.4 update on Windows has a nicely updated GUI. If you configure everything and generate rom/iso playlists then everything is clean and right where you'd want it. Imagine FceuGX's romlist. Now imagine having a playlist for every machine you're emulating, each list side by side with console specific ICON's and everything. Some people might like the GUI, but I personally hate it. I guess I should give the newest version a try sometime. Thanks for the heads upThe most recent 1.3.4 update on Windows has a nicely updated GUI. Thanks, stealth. I downloaded that one last night. It's actually really nice. It's nicer than this other cover mod version I was using. This version was still experiencing the problem with Double Dragon, though. Eventually I found another .cht file that worked, and I switched to the one you just linked to because I currently like it best.zopenko is a user that has his own build of fceu-gx but with customizations (a thread for his build is on this forum)
perhaps you can post those issues there
