Hacking Japan n3DS Plailect's guide with Region change

Hello! So I have done some searching and while I did find some results answering my question, I fear it may be outdated especially with the break neck pace of the 3DS hacking scene's growth. I am planning on importing a n3DS from Japan and intend to A9LH it using Plailect's guide:

Now his guide was just updated less than 50 hours ago so the steps have changed up... If I wanted to change the region of the n3DS from Japan to USA during the process, how would I do it? I don't really care about e-shop compatibility as I never use it due to my large collection of carts. Many thanks for all of your guys' help! I have successfully A9LH'd 2 3DS' already with the great guides available due to this community.

You would do all 5 parts, basically, you need to complete the whole guide and be on A9LH+Luma3DS, then you do the Region Change part of the guide.

And yeah, the eshop won't work for n3DS consoles as stated on that part of the guide.

For O3DS? work?

Yes, for o3DS, the region change works just fine and you end up with a working eshop. I did it to my 25 Anniv. Zelda o3DS (U)SA and it's now region changed to (E)urope, and the eshop works!

Yeah, you'll still be able to play online with your games. Could always use freeShop if you want some sort of eshop, I guess.

Can I create a USA emuNAND for playing local multi-player games with other US consoles (mine is EUR) if yes, can you guide me to the correct/easiest tutorial

As I know I can't play local multi-player games out of region

I've just used the guide to get a JAP emunand under menuhax, here's a quick reference of the steps. Please fully read and comprenhend plailect's guide before attempting to do the region change, as this are simplified steps just for reference:

1.- Make emunand backup from 9.2 version (it's important that it is a 9.2)
2.- Setup 9.2 emunand on sdcard
3.- Prepare HS.app with FBI, put sysupdater on sd:/cia (You can dump HS.app with decrypt9, use this tool to inject fbi.cia: https://github.com/Shadowtrance/Universal-Inject-Generator-Csharp/releases)
4.- Put cia files for the new region on sdcard (folder sd:/updates)
5.- Use decrypt9 to inject the HS.APP containing FBI.
6.- Run your 9.2 emunand
7.- Run FBI and install sysupdater
8.- Run sysupdater and select downgrade (Y). The console reboots itself when it finishes.
9.- Enter emunand again and run FBI. Delete all system titles that have a product code ending with "P" except "CTR-P-CTAP" and those with no product code (check plailect's guide!!!!!)
10.- Shutdown console and run decrypt9
11.- Dump Secureinfo_A from emunand
12.- Open your dumped Secureinfo_A in computer with hex editor, change region to japanese (0x00)
13.- Inject Secureinfo_A with decrypt9 to emunand
14.- Reboot your emunand.

Now you have a 9.1 Japanese emunand!

15.- Go to system settings and format or update to latest firmware, depends on what you want to do with your region changed emunand.

My personal recomendation: install TinyFormat CIA (https://github.com/javimadgit/TinyFormat/releases) to EMUNAND to avoid any conflicts with your account from the other region. It allows to reconfigure system menu without having to re-enable your nintendo account, then update trough system settings. Also, doens't need internet connection.
WARNING! Only load tiny format when you are running under the emunand you want to format.

This is interesting concept, as I have a JP N3DS which is difficult to use as my main system, as I have a years-old O3DS data which has moved from unit to unit and now is on emunand on my O3DS.

It would really be possible to put an emunand of a US O3DS onto a JP N3DS to load up as a separate environment? I'd probably do the region change outright but I still want to access eShop as well.

I'm pretty sure a regionchanged N3DS emunand can't access e-shop, even though you'd probably be able to make a system transfer from your o3DS to a US N3DS emunand on your JP system

Alright, as I thought. Sorry, I knew the eshop wouldn't work on the region-change emunand, but I didn't word that well. So in other words, there's no way that a region-changed JP-to-US system could access eshop? even if it was on sysnand?

Only o3ds can access the Eshop after a region change, no n3ds.

Ask yourself the question, 'do I really need a region swap'? Tbh, it's not worth doing and here is my two cents on why it isn't.

If you own original carts and plan to do a a9lh install, plus the fact shadow nand (still in early alpha stage) is looking promising now (booting a9lh without a SD card) then region swapping is not exactly worth the hassle.

I own a jp n3ds that is on a9lh/luma and it does the job. You'll get the benefits of a9lh, plus region free for original 3ds carts, Cia's with region and langauge changing and NDS cart support straight of the bat.

Sure, every menu and text is japanese on the unit but really what else you going to do? And yes you would lose eShop on a n3ds, if you swapped regions but if your not bothered then cool.

I have not even bothered with eShop, as the whole point of cfw is cia installs and the rest.

So imo, do a a9lh on the jp n3ds and it will serve you well.

If it helps at all, you can just setup an emunand that is regionswapped (I am able to go online on every one of my US games, carts and installed cias (even with possibly the dirtiest nand on this site)). That way, you get the benefits of having jpn sysnand (eshop) and the benefits of a US/eur console (playing with friends, going online, etc.) The only real downside is that you have to use some external methods to obtain updates and games (like the freeshop or whatever it is kids these days use to obtain their cias).

I had my region swapped NAND long before a9lh was public (or at least mentioned as an option), but if you want to do a region swap that doesn't involve pressing a button in luma, you should probably do the region swap after you setup a9lh, just keep an untouched emunand.bin from step 3 and to not format your sd card whenever the guide tells you to (around the end of step 5). Follow the region changing page on the guide and you should be fine. I highly recommend that you use an sd card that is 16gb+ if you plan on using both NANDs for games (even if you don't plan on using both, 16 gb of storage is always nice), and you should probably not put the region swapped emunand on your sysnand, just because its safer to keep stock region in sysnand imo. (wrote this at 4am, so if something doesn't make sense, just let me know and I'll try to clarify)
