I'm wondering whether there is any possibility of the blog plugin being improved on this site. Specifically, I feel it would be better if:
  1. The comments were paginated like a forum thread
  2. Tagging users in a comment notified the user like a forum posting
  3. Comments could be quoted like a forum posting
  4. Clicking a comment notification took you to that comment, like a reply notification in a forum thread
  5. Clicking a blog article you have viewed before took you to the most recent comment you have not yet read since last viewing it (or the first article itself if you have never viewed it)
Basically I think the blog should function like a forum thread. I suspect the idea is not for blogs to be used for in-depth discussion, but that the comments should be quick responses to the article. But more often than not, the comments run into tens or even hundreds. This makes the page load incredibly slowly, makes it difficult to find your place where you got to last time you viewed it, and makes it hard to respond to others' comments.

So you want the blogs function to be just another section of the forum? Wouldn't that take away the whole point of them being "blogs" and not just another post? The less subforums we have the better IMO.

I know vBulletin's old-ass plugin system does most of this, although I think it lacks the pagination. It'd be really nice as I wanted to read a particular blog entry but it was absolutely enormous all the comments I had to scroll through.

Well they would still be segregated from the forums section and accessed by selecting the user's blogs option on their profile. That way they would be separate from the forums and wouldn't clutter them like more sub forums would. But if they behaved like a forum, I think they would be much easier to use.

I also agree they should be exactly like a section from the forum, you know, when you have a good functional thing that gets the work done better, why not using it again?

Nope, the whole point of the blogs is to attach them completely to a specific user, to be listed on their blog entry list, and to well... be blogs, that do not appear on the forum threads listings.
