To make sure, I searched "Pokemon Trading Card Game" in the Nintendo 3DS Discussions subforum, no instances of this request were found. I couldn't search up Pokemon TCG due to the small word filter.

The (official) 3DS virtual console version of Pokemon Trading Card Game (originally for the GBC) doesn't come with a workaround for card pop!, the only way to get the two really rare promotional cards for the game (a Venusaur and a Mew).

I'm assuming a custom save editor would definitely help me get them, so I'd like to know if any of them have already been made, or if one can be made.

Alternatively, another method is also welcome. I don't have the NTR CFW, so cheats are probably out of the question. I'm currently running off of Luma 3DS, latest version Emunand.

why is NTR and cheats 'out of the question'? simply install it... :)
very easy to make cheats with gw, but if you don't have it already i doubt the cheat part is worth the money to you.

Well... you can inject Pokémon Trading Card Game GB to another VC Game. (to get Card Pop! work)
I Dont know if IR is working. because i tried from R4 and Black/White and doesnt work. (only original game)
But Save Editor... uh?
I Think if you search you found a PTCG sav editor.
But the problem is:
The 3DS Version use same save format from emulator?

You actually CAN export the save via JKSM, load the save to a rom in VisualBoyAdvance, use gameshark/action replay cheats (whichever it is), inject the save back into the VC _IF_ you have it inject into another VC game (though I don't remember if it's even in the eShop). I've done it myself.

I thought about that for a moment, but I figured Nintendo wouldn't use a similar save feature.

This copy of PTCG isn't a .GBC file turned CIA, it's the release from the e-shop. All a save export gives me is .dat files, which I'm fairly certain can't be read from emulators.

I read somewhere that you can rename the .dat to .sav and it should work for GBA games. I can't confirm that it works as I haven't tried it, and I'm even less sure if it'll work on a GBC game but it's worth a try, no?

I exported the save with savedatafiler (same files exported with JKSM) and I was able to open the save with VBA. I then proceeded to cheat in four of the two card pop cards and saved it.

I exported the save as a dat file (flash save) and renamed it to sav.dat, then I attempted to import the save directly back into the 3DS copy.

The save didn't seem to change, I was still without the cards for some odd reason, as if I never imported the new save copy.

Try not exporting and just rename the normal .sav to .dat?

I just imported a Crystal Save from VBA on a Crystal VC injected (OldVC engine) and it's working fine (but you need to hex edit the save before)

Like Asia81 I can confirm that you can use JKSV to transfer saves to/from emulators. I took my original TCG save from my cartridge and put it on my computer by way of my Retron 5. Then I imported it into the VC title. It's tricky at first because it will say the save file was corrupted and that it is reinitializing it. I believe this is because of the two other files (the save states). Eventually you can get it working, though. I did the same with Pokémon Yellow. B-)
