My question is if i sent in a New 3ds with A9LH on it, while trying to keep the boot looking as vanilla as possible, to get fixed (broken bottom LCD screen). Do you think they will know its running a9lh and fix the 3ds. (currently on menuhax, but willing to go to a9lh because i heard nintendo updates your firmware)

Well, there may be a problem, cuz' you can't boot without your SD Card with A9LH, and since Nintendo must be following the hacking scene to find counters, they will probably try to boot your device without the SD.
Don't know what could happen. Seems quite dangerous to me.

Its a waste of time and money, they'll spot it and you'll get fucked over, you might as well put a sticker on it saying your console is modded

Best way to do it is to backup your nand and restore one that isn't modded. When you get it back just restore modded nand.

Won't they update to latest version though?

Can we restore a nand on 11.x without a hardmod though? Just wondering since Nintendo WILL update the console.

and thanks for all the input guys probably not going to send it to nintendo, Ill just learn to fix it myself

If it's still under warranty, send it in without an SD card. They'll fix it. They won't bother to check the NAND and just swap the motherboard. I had Nintendo repair two bricked Wii motherboards back in 2009 doing this. You want to intentionally make it not boot, just completely brick it or install arm9loaderhax or whatever so it just goes black.

Sadly this happened after my warranty ran out lol

Ultimately is it illegal to have a modded 3DS as long as you don't have any pirated software on it? It's certainly not illegal to jailbreak an iPhone, at least in many/most countries. And it is your own property.

Nintendo can always refuse to fix it. But I imagine the worst they could do is that, or perhaps put a new motherboard on it.

I'd never send it in with any software on it other than just having the 3ds modded, highly likely that nintendo will say no to the repair. At this point I've already decided to just fix it myself lol

Flash stock NAND and leave no SD in it

Nintendo may check boot by copying arm9loaderhax.bin to the SD Card and it will boot afterward. Best bet would be to load cakes (flash stock NAND (keep A9LH) first) without Firm protection then update Sys NAND. Boom, Guaranteed brick

Maybe this could be possible when ShadowNAND is a viable CFW

booting that and removing any and all hacky files from the SD would be convincing (probably anyway :P)

Well Nintendo refused in the past to repair Wii U"s for have installed the Homebrew Channel in Wii mode so I can"t think they will do much more than resend to youu without repairing it, but well it will be fun to see what happens.
