Hey guys, Ive seen a lot of negative stuff on GBATemp lately ... some are constructive criticisms, some not so much so I decided I would start a positive thread to show our appreciation to the staff and the community and share what we like. Please don't post negative comments here, there are plenty of threads for that ;)
Here's why I think GBATemp is amazing:

-It's the #1 source of Nintendo hacks, mods, homebrews ect ..
-A lot of Devs share their work and knowledge here and will, most of the time, reply to your questions.
-The staff are almost all really nice people that are genuinely trying to help.
-A lot of regular members are amazing people too!
-Creative contests like Tempmas (thanks again Costello for my N3DS :D)
-The news are always relevant and well written.
-This site gets really interesting during Christmas time :D
-Girls are (most of the time) respected here
-Most importantly, I've made some good friends here!

Please share yours!

I have some constructive criticisms towards the site's recent community, but that doesn't mean I don't love the Temp. I've been a member here since 09 and I've seen the community change overtime. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse, but it's still the Temp to me and it always ended up sorting itself out.
I would have to say I wouldn't have become the 9th highest posting member on the site, if I didn't love the site.

This is one of the only few gaming sites that this statement is pretty much a fact. We have Devs of all wakes of life, different ganders, sexes, sexualities, ect. And no one gives a shit about that, they only care about the work they do and what they contribute to the community. The only people who do "care," are often trolls who only joined to troll and often banned.
I have to say, this is one site where it's safe to be yourself without people shitting on you over it.

Where the hell else are you going to go for Nintendo hax/piracy discussion? That's a good of a defense of this place as any.

Other things I like:
1. Xenforo. Fight me. Every time I go to Reddit I'm reminded how great this forum software is in comparison.
2. Weird, funny community. Stuff you guys do is always cracking me up. I like the 'zoo' aspect of this place -- there's always something crazy going on.
3. Some really smart/useful members to balance out the dumb ones.
4. Pretty decent middle ground between free speech vs. censorship. Although the number of thin-skinned members seems to be on the rise (this is true of the net in general though).
5. Staff is attentive and care about the forum. I kind of wish they were more tuned into what most members are talking about though (read/participate in the discussions instead of just filling out reports and hiding in the IRC).

So that pretty much wraps it up. Glad to be here now and in the future hopefully. :)

I completely agree with you , though if this site used Invision Power Board, it would be way better, as IMO, it's a faster and more reliable forum software

Negativity surrounding GBAtemp has been around in many forms throughout the years - The fact GBAtemp is still around and people are making threads like this one really speaks volumes as to the validity of that negativity.
(Irony? You decide!)

I believe temp used IPB back in the day (<=2012?). Site got hacked and was down for a whole week or so. The daily forum traffic was devastated and the temp was in real danger of going the way of DScene until the 3ds and Wiiu started getting hacked finally.

It was okay, but I like this board software better. Security is tops though, so ditching IPB was the right decision whatever your personal tastes may be.

idk, i tried both on my personal site(nulled) and both work pretty fine, altough IPB is more vunrelable to pentesting that XenForo, but I think IPB is more organized and clean :) . But those are just opinions ;)

GBAtemp is the very first community I felt good in, and I do not regret the huge amount of time spent here.

The community is regular members is amazing, the staff people are great at what they are doing, there is always interesting discissions. Anything! Threada to talk, blogs to vent, share projects, profile pages to have nice messages written in. I never got myself involved so much into a community until the day I made my account here, and to tell the truth, I have absolutly no regret, and I won't leave the place until years later, hopefully.

You are joking me right?
Sure, there's around 20-30 users that are fine, but this is one of the few sites I've been on, where there's been a regular problem with me being accepted here, it feels like my school, all over again.

This is my final post here and it will stay like that.

I think that although the mods do their job well they can be assholes sometimes
"Assholes" to the cancerous people deserving it yes.

No. Just no.
The staff here are extremely forgiving to people compared to sites I've been on. I've been on sites where users don't even get warnings before getting banned *cough *gaiaonline *cough* I've been on sites where the staff act as if they are unquestionable Gods to the users *IGN.*
They let a lot more slide compared to other sites. Not to mention some the easiest staff that I've ever had to deal with. I never feel threatened, scared, or belittled when talking to them. I feel like I am talking to someone who is willing to listen and willing to take the time to fully evaluate a situation before giving a call.
I would also like to mention they are the first staff that I've ever seen be completely active in the community. They don't just sit behind Staff forums all day and pump out announcements. They actively talk in the community and make themselves very familiar with everyone. If it wasn't for their label, they just come off as regular forum users.
