Ok, any word on an n64 emulator for the 3ds? Its kinda odd considering we have a almost near full speed ps1 emulator for the 3ds, but not a n64 (less powerful than ps1) emulator. Does anyone know if there is one in development?

thanks

N3ds only?

This emulator is perhaps overrated.

It's neat that it does what it does, but most of the games you'd want to play run 40 FPS at the best of times, and often much less. Sound is atrocious. In many cases it's not fun at all.

Dude, pc's still have issues emulating a n64. N64 is in the boat that people don't have one hundred info on the parts that runs a n64. I don't know if there is one but if you do odds are that you will have a handful of games if lucky and it's going to be a long time before it's gets good.

Look up n64 for the psp development history to get a better understanding of the time it takes and where they started from. The device power that's going to do the emulation is important but understanding the parts and making it fit like a puzzle is the real key. 3ds wise there is a long way to go.

PCSX ReARMed is optimized specifically for ARM architecture, same as the 3DS. The fact that libretro is so modular is the only reason it was easy to port. Even on PC there still really isn't perfect N64 emulation, let alone fast, portable emulation. Writing one from scratch considering the 3DS's slow processor and limited OpenGL support would have to be one hell of a passion project. Also PSX was weaker than N64, it just had CDs to facilitate more storage.

It's because Mupen64Plus, the libretro core that would be the only candidate for porting, has no software renderer. Hence, no 3DS port.

Not surprising, the PS1 was a lot weaker than the N64.
Untrue, in fact in some areas the PS1 was actually more powerful..... like steveo says it's more the architecture of the N64, whereas the PS1's is relatively a very simple setup. Just look at the PC emulators of the Sega Saturn, again roughly as powerful as a PS1 - same thing there.

Nintendo 64 was also a 64 bit system, while Ps1 was 32 bit. Also, in what areas is the ps1 more powerful than the n64? Never heard of it, but i'd like to know :)

32 bit/64 bit does not mean 64 bit is more powerful.
you can build a bad slow computer with a 64bit processor, and you can build a nice fast one with a 32 bit - if you wanted to.

Yes, but that wasn't what I was saying. I meant that a 64 bit system might be more difficult to emulate..
I'm really not that good with this stuff, just making an assumption.
