Hi everyone,

I'm actually searching the easiest way to play non-EURO games (Megaman Legacy Collection in that case) on my 2DS Euro system with 8.1.0-19E firmware.

Do I need to upgrade to 9.2 ?
(I tried to install rxTools but the screen locks when "Installation is successful".)

Method with "launcher.dat" didn't work either.

I just want to install a region unlocker to play real cartridges games from others areas.

Thank you very much for your help !

follow this guide: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki
You can either stop when you got a rednand up and running, or continue and get a full A9LH install (up to you really).

The CFW you will end up with when following this guide is Luma3DS.
Luma3DS supports region free, and is usually regarded as the best choice these days.

Thank you for your help.

To install a rednand, I need to upgrade to 9.2 or did I miss something ?

EDIT : Temarile just answered me so I will try to do this :)

To be able to create a RedNAND you need to update to 9.2 indeed. After you're on 9.2 you can just follow the guide the first person linked from the start.

If you just want to run a cartridge, you can actually just use region free in homebrew. Search google for homebrew launcher and click on Smealum's site. Not that I want to discourage you from setting up a9lh but just thought I'd mention it if it was the only thing you wanted to do.
I already tried regionthree but it doesn't work with Megaman Legacy Collection. I got a black screen and the game doesn't start. Maybe it's because the game was launched recently.

Try with HANS (it's regionthree's "newest" version). I don't know if it's compatible with *hax on < 9.0, so you might have to update to 9.0-9.2.

Hi guys,

So the Homebrew Channel launch great through internet browser. The Region Free Tool sees my Megaman Legacy Cartridge right but when I launch the game, there is a black screen and Nothing happens.

Any ideas ? The game needs a firmware above 9.2 ?

Looking at the 3DS database website, the game cart apparently includes the 9.9 update, so it's safe to say that it's only for firmwares 9.9 and up.

I'd suggest that you use HANS instead, and select USA for region (the USA version supports French apparently so it should be fine to leave the language blank) and then enable the FW version spoof.

Thank you but HANS doesn't launch the screen with parameters (Region, Firmware, ...) when I launch the game. One screen blocked on color and the another blocked one white lines. Maybe there is newer version of HANS than one contains in the starter kit of Homebrew Launcher ?

Ugh... This can happen with some games unfortunately.

I would suggest, as a next step, that you set up Luma3DS and an RedNAND as was suggested in the first replies. This won't affect your system at all, but you WILL have to format you SD card in order to setup a RedNAND.

If you choose to do so, do NOT format SysNAND on step 22, format RedNAND instead, unless you want to make RedNAND your main.

It works nicely ! Thank you very much all of you for your help ;)
Last question : how can I do to push the system to boot on RedNAND ? (My 2DS system will be used for import games only) :)

You're welcome, glad it finally worked! :)

You can auto-boot to RedNAND with the help of menuhax (you can install it using menuhax_manager from HBL if you didn't already set it up). When setting up menuhax, choose the "Type 2" configuration and use a boot manager like BootCTR to boot the CFW.

As an alternative, you could also set up arm9loaderhax instead of menuhax (i.e. parts 4 and 5 of Plailect's guide) if you can afford to spend an hour to do it. It is a system exploit that triggers very early on boot, and thus it enables the user to launch unsigned software even before the firmware loads.

Using AL9H, you can ditch the RedNAND (it will be transferred to your SysNAND) and your system will auto-boot to Luma that will patch the SysNAND (which you can update even to 11.0, it won't matter), in just 6 to 8 seconds (just as if there was no exploit at all) and with a 100% boot rate.
(plus, A9LH kinda gives brick protection since takes control of the console before the firmware is launched, so you can restore your SysNAND in case you delete some system stuff by mistake)

Of course, you can stick to menuhax + a boot manager and that would be fine if you are okay with it, it's really up to you.

Just wanna say you're doing a great job explaining everything. I wish everyone was as patient and kind as you are instead of negative and toxic which seems standard nowadays.

Thank you! I could actually say the same thing about you. ^_^ And luckily, there are a lot of other people whom hang around here and try to kindly help others, it's always nice to see!
