Hardware Best way to get regular sized n3DS in the USA?

It looks like the Animal Crossing bundle is the best way? Is there anyway to replace those Animal face plates with just a standard white one if you went this route? The Pokemon Red and Blue bundle is pretty pricey.

What about getting a Japan import regular sized n3DS? Is there a way to region unlock it? What if you plan on hacking the system anyway for free games? Does it matter what region the console is?

If I"m not wrong there"s a way to change the region but you can"t access the eShop and similar related network services.
I think the best will be to buy an American normal size "New" 3DS and then buy another face plate of your like trought Internet, you can buy Normal "New" 3DS faceplates frm another region or in Official Online Nintendo Store.

i think you would rather get the european model compared to the japanese, unless you specifically want a japanese one.
but yes if you spend extra money you can get the usa one, it is only in a bundle though right...?

There are two bundles as said, one of Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer and another one of Pokemon Red and Blue that are American Normal "New 3DS".
Still pretty unfair by thought.

I just got the animal crossing one and then bought the oras translucent plates. Works great, a lot better than my old xl.

Region changing is a huge pain, so if you can manage to get an animal crossing one at a fair price just go for that. I managed to get mine new for $166 but I think they've since stopped making them, the price seems to have gone up.

Unless you like buying it second hand off eBay for something like 300 or 350 dollars now you're gonna be SoL. I wish they would have made those longer but it has to be limited edition, for some reason.

The better is to search more and buy an American, because if you Region Change the console there may be problems too get eShop and similar working in the new Region, I thought the only manner you can actually make it work in "New" 3DS region changed is if you use yifanlu method: https://gist.github.com/yifanlu/e80db121d38aceb8cca0e03cefd5853b
But note that it is more complex to do and maybe you don"t want to do it.

I'd definitely recommend buying the AC one and changing the faceplates.
I'm ordering the xenoblade faceplates at the end of this month but I don't mind the HH designer faceplates for now.

You can get a used one at GameStop (not in a bundle) and it was $110 last time I checked.

I buy a European black, even if you can change the faceplates I don't like the white color when is open.

If you don't care about having really nicely designed faceplates, for about $3 you can get some plain white knockoffs from China on Ebay. I bought a set for my Pokemon N3DS and they look fine. Just a bit off of the normal console color but I don't care.

The only caveat is that they don't come with the screws in the faceplate. So you either have to remove the screws from your AC or Pokemon faceplate or just do what I have done and go without the screws. The bottom plate holds on just fine without the screws in so it's no big deal.

I would suggest putting in an order ASAP though as the shipping time was pretty long. I think it took around 3 weeks to get them. YMMV.

eBay searching n3ds non-xl is quite a pain indeed... I just search "n3ds" and tweak my search using the tickboxes on the left of the page. Anyway, here's a couple more links I found:
