Hacking [GUIDE] Upgrading 8.1.0-0J to 9.2.0-20J

anyone got an idea what those two are?

i thought they got the updates from game carts... no?

if 9.2J can be retrieved from a game cart, this thread wouldn't have existed in the first place. everyone could have just updated to 9.2 from the cart.

0004001B00010802.cia: "Same contents as 00010802. Starting with 7.1.0-15, the "dummy.txt" file was removed from RomFS: this CFA RomFS now contains web-browser data(similar to 00018102) for NNID / networking, etc."

Sorry, I've been busy managing other things and forgot about it. The 9.2J pack is from a certain mega folder that I can't link but you could find with some googling or probably on a certain iso site.

It can be from CDN, just grabbed before it was gone.
3DNUS allows you to download all the CIAs of any update on Nintendo servers, and many people downloaded (and now re-host on ISO sites) the 9.2 for the use of downgraders.

i said "at this point". when we were scuttling why the "9.2" pack was upgrading us to 9.1, nobody stepped up with a "true" 9.2 pack. according to @yifan_lu the difference between 9.1 and 9.2 were only 2 files, which i believe was the homemenu and nver. what's weird about this pack is that there are 2 extra files, which were not present in the 9.1 pack, and those 2 files are definitely not the homemenu and nver. also the real 9.2 pack from the CDN has the 000400102002CA00 package and won't brick you upon install, unfortunately this "true" 9.2 pack doesn't even have the 000400102002CA00 title.

i think gateway just solved a lot of problems for 8.1.0-0J users who don't want to use the SOAP method:

upgrade to 10.3 and downgrade back to 9.2.

since upgrading and downgrading right now is no longer viable (as of now with 11.0), i think this would be "better" than the SOAP method.

That's true, except I heard that the web browser isn't available after updating to 10.3 with this method. (I wonder if they can do the 1/1/2000 spoof? I'll have to ask them in that thread!)

Additionally, GW's A9LH payload seems to be different from arm9loaderhax.bin, so it doesn't look like it'll actually compatible with anything else unless someone REs it or GW changes it themselves (with the amount of upset users, I hope they will come to their senses soon...).

even with the broken browser, it'll be easier to go up to 10.3, and downgrade using OoT/CN. i think most people on 8.1.0-0J are GW users, since it was (and maybe still is) the only hack that works on this FW, and to even install MSET, you need OoT/CN. Or heck, can you even change the GW files to upgrade to 9.2 instead? not sure about the process if they're doing CRC/MD5 checks before installing a package.

I've tried that, but I couldn't find a legit cia of the web browser. (I tried the 9.2 and 9.0 packs from the iso site as well as the one provided in the Plailect guide)

I don't think you do, but installing a perfectly legit CIA will work whether or not you are running a CFW: The problem is, I haven't gotten my hands on a legit CIA of the 9.2 N3DS browser, and taking it from the common 9.2 Update/Downgrade packs didn't seem to work.
