So my Friend Has A N3DS (Still on 9.2) and i want to setup Gateway on it. I've got my 2DS using gateway but i have no idea how or what the difference is with a N3DS. I have also never updated the firmware or anything like that on my 2DS so i don't know whats new im missing out on.

Can anyone send me a guide that you followed to set it up! Also is there any helpful advise and tips on what to do/not to do. Like is there any good hombrew or cheats to put on there?

Thanks in advance!

DOn't use gateway. Use a CFW specifically Luma3ds. It is easier then gateway setup wise. It also has DS game support. ANd it is free

Why not, Gateway is the best Unless that is a new and better Flashcard iv'e never heard about?
The 3ds no longer needs a flashcart for piracy. That is what custom firmwares are for. They are free, open sourced easier to setup, has ds/gba support, no need for headers to play online, and features that gateway will never have.

To launch gateway on an N3DS, you need to use a *hax entry point like OOT, Cubic Ninja, Browserhax, Menuhax, etc.

You can do the set up as you did in your 2DS (emunand creation, cia installation via red card), but it would be better to setup CFW for your friend afterwards. Search for "Plailect otp guide" and read it carefully.

As a Gateway user, you might want to wait a few days/weeks/months for the next update that is in closed beta right now and that is supposed to come out on Sunday (probably will be delayed as they are reportedly having some issues). This will enable you to use the latest and best exploit entry point called A9LH (for arm9loaderhax).

For your friend, you probably want to setup A9LH directly, since he is on 9.2. This will enable him to load CFW from SysNAND directly, install CIAs and stuff, have brick protection, stock-like boot and 100% boot rate, and also be on the latest official firmware.

You can follow this guide for more information: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki (more specifically, you can start from part 3 since he's already on 9.2, but I encourage you to read the whole thing).

You can of course follow the guide for your 2DS too, if you don't want to wait for the Gateway update.

You can play GBA VC or inject GBA ROMs into CIAs, and you can play DSiWare games. You cannot play regular DS ROMs from the SD card (yet?) though, but you can use even old DS/DSi flashcarts now (even those that used to be blocked).

EDIT: and of course, 3DS games (but as CIAs, you cannot play .3ds ROMs without a Gateway or Sky3DS or their clones).

but gba and vc only work in emu (bad performance + battery drain) or in sysNAND (unvoncenient).
This is incorrect. Playing from emuNAND does NOT bring bad performance or unusual battery drain. And playing from sysNAND really isnt inconvenient considering us A9LH master racers generally ONLY have sysNAND.

Dont spread false information please.

With emu I meant emulator.
And everything is true for that.

No way you did. You said VC. You cant run VC through emulation, unless you mean emulating the NAND. Regardless.. you said it only worked that way which is false. You can run GBA VC from emuNAND, as long as you have it installed to sysNAND as well.

Again.. just accept you were wrong and stop spreading false info. No one wants or needs it and it only creates complications for new or returning users such as OP

Ok, for the record: there two ways of playing gba and other VC/retro games: either use .cia double installation and play on sysnand (which is rather inconvenient for cfw emunand users and takes twice the space) and the other solution is emulators such as retro arch. And of course emulating a machine is per definition slower (not always noticeable) and always more power consuming (worse battery life). Hope it is clear now.

Easier to setup? Not really. Gateway initial setup is just as easy as Luma3DS, if not easier due to having emunand formatting built in. Both are simple copy+paste.

As for features that Gateway will never have... Well, the jury's still out on that. They have been lagging behind a bit lately but they are adding new features, just slowly.
Luma3DS has quite a few advantages over Gateway right now (in large part thanks to @TuxSH) but Gateway still has a few advantages over CFW. For an existing Gateway owner there's not much wrong with using it, it just doesn't make sense for someone new to 3DS hacking to pay $60 when they can get CFW for free, unless they're really interested in built in cheat searching or .3DS rom support.

VC is emulation. And technically GBA injects do run on sysNAND. That's why they have to be installed to both. Nothing he said was wrong.

No shit VC is emulation. Playing GBA on 3DS is emulation, period. But theres a difference between using emuNAND and VC and any NAND with an emulator like Retro. Sure, the emuNAND GBA switches to sysNAND when playing to deal with saves.. which is why it must be installed to both. That doesnt mean they dont work in emuNAND at all... meaning booting from emuNAND works.. even if it has to switch to sysNAND to run. You still return to emuNAND once its done.. and who installs anything to sysNAND other than VC titles if they have emuNAND? No one.

Why ANYONE would choose to use emulator like Retro to run GBA is beyond me. SNES on a o3DS maybe. Outside of that, emulators are pretty useless for 3DS currently.

He said emulators are a way to boot GBA VC.
You show me one emulator for 3DS that boots VC CIAs and ill give you a cookie. Until then, dudes wrong.

Also not true. Ambassador GBA games are not emulated, they run natively on the ARM7 CPU that was added to the 3DS for backwards compatibility.

And actually, you return to sysNAND after playing a GBA game.
Luma3DS wiki said:
GBA Save Game Patch
When you quit a GBA game, you'll be forced to SysNAND in every case. This is important to prevent loss of your saves, and can't be changed or overridden.

Maybe with Luma thats the case. I wouldnt know since I return to sysNAND regardless since its all I have. With rxTools, it simply rebooted console when exiting GBA, which led directly back to emuNAND for anyone using menuhax.

which is what I meant by "inconvenient". it takes long, it doesn't guarantee to work 100% (we all know menuhax) and it is basically a pain.

He said emulators are a way to boot GBA VC.

well your reading skills still lack in that department. I never said it was way to go. quite the opposite: I described the ways of booting those games and the one way is a hassle (see abobe) and the other is energy consuming and bad performance.

but gba and vc only work in emu

Maybe you should learn how to type out an entire thought properly, and no one would have issues determining what you mean.
Besides that... I never said YOU said it was the way to go. But guess what. No emulators run VC. My reading skills are fine.
Its your typing or comprehension on the subject that leaves to be desired.
There are more than just 2 ways to boot, and if you ONLY have patched sysNAND,
(which would be the third method, if emuNAND and emulation are the other two)
its no hassle at all.
