The only thing that isn't region free with the PS4 is the DVD playback, Bluray movie playback (I think) and the PS store

Do PS4 games have regional locks?
In general, neither digital nor disc-based games will be region locked, but PlayStation recommends that all users purchase games at the region of their residence to guarantee the best overall experience and customer service. In certain instances, a software publisher may choose to region lock a game title for specific reasons, but Sony Computer Entertainment expects these instances to be uncommon.

Also it probably won't get released in U.S. due to how obscure Miku is here

Lame I want a PS4 and Japan keeps releasing games and bundles that I want but they won't release them here. :(
Buy a standard PS4 here and import the games. Surely having Hatsune Miku on the system itself shouldn't be too important... right?

I have a Japanese PS4 the x and o buttons only affects when you navigate the interface, not in US games and USA blue ray plays fine, since Blu Ray for USA is the same region for JP. For PS store its just like normal USA PS4 it's base on your account.

it is up to the developers if the game reads your system's confirmation button or not.
some games have the X or O hardcoded (bad) - some games read the value on the system so the game will adapt to your O or X, as it should. i wish sony would make it mandatory.
i have experienced both, i am not sure which is more prevalent and common, i don't play many 'other region' games.
