I did not want to have to make a new thread for this but since the other was closed and we still have unanswered questions that could benefit members here, I decided to post this.

You can load games off of USB HDD right now.

All you need is to get an SD to USB connection adaptor. It costs about 40-50 bones shipped, you can then plug your SD adaptor into your Wii U then connect your USB HDD to your adaptor. You get extra storage, but you are still limited to SD speeds.

I have not been able to find ANY SD Card Slot to USB adapters/converters anywhere but some people have claimed otherwise.

Does anyone have a link (or information) that proves what @KSP mentioned earlier to be accurate?

We are talking about an adapter that goes into the Sd card slot and then has an option for plugging in a USB cable. I am not worried if the speed is SD card speeds as it is more about the convenience of being able to utilize an external HDD until another, more efficient, USB method comes to fruition.

Thanks for your help!

Those plug into the USB ports, not the SD card slot, but thanks.

I am looking for what @KSP stated in the post linked in the OP: an adapter that plugs into the SD card slot and then has the option of plugging a USB cable into it.

That is what I stated before in the other thread (Mobidapter) but I could not find actual info on it's legitimacy. Is there anything else that is similar? I would like to buy this and do a review on it so others will know if it works effectively or not.

I appreciate the effort and your assistance! Hopefully we can get some good conversations going on this subject until we have more information in regards to actual USB loading in the future.

EDIT: What sucks is that adapter is limited to a maximum of 32GB, as stated earlier. It is still the right concept though, it just does not utilize the entire USB storage, unfortunately. It would be great if someone knew of an alternative.

There are already several threads about the Mobidapter. @bobino36 appears to have purchased one.

Seems like it would be much better to get a 32GB card given that the adapter gives you neither the space nor speed advantages of an HDD.

Regardless, the speeds would be the same, it would be the convenience of having all of your media stored on one drive instead of multiple SD cards or having to constantly copy/delete new/old files on said cards.

Unfortunately, none of those had information that was relevant or answers that sufficed my thirst... Pretty much, they didn't answer my question like this thread has.

...hence the reason I linked to a search for "Mobidapter".

Thanks again. I am about to call them now to see if they have something with a higher maximum reading capacity.

Something not limited to SDHC (maybe SDXC or higher) is what we would be looking for...

EDIT: I just called Saelig and they told me they do not have anything above SDHC compatibility in their Mobidapter device.

It still wouldn't matter and the game would load at slow times because the Wii U will still be using the SD hardware for loading them, and AFAIK that's still limited to what SD access provides.

It would matter. I am not looking for faster speeds, as has been stated before in this thread. I am looking for the convenience of having everything stored on USB storage. Speed has nothing to do with this conversation, but thanks for your input!

We need something that is SDXC, not SDHC which has the 32GB limitation.

Oh okay sorry I jumped ahead with the comment :P
But good luck anyway! And hope you find a good SD/USB converter.
I might be getting one too since my SD is almost at its peak with games. :P

...and there are some very intelligent individuals on here. It's quite possible someone could reverse-engineer the Mobidapter for use with SDXC.

Ignore the 32Gb limit, its just BS that SDHC made up when it was first introduced. Its a standard, not an actual hardware limitation per se.

There is no limit to SDHC capacity. The adaptor should have no problem reading any sized USB HDD that is in fat32 format.

Just bought one. Came to $46 and some change. I appreciate the heads up in that other thread, @KSP.

I will let you all know how it turns out. I will be using an adapter to connect it to the Wii U (as it is micro SD). I believe that we all misinterpreted the description when it mentioned the 32GB limitation and I believe that KSP is correct in his/her assumption that they have no size limitation outside of the capacity of the drive itself.

The "maximum capacity of the host" is the important bit.

Code:
[*]USB drives supported up to the maximum capacity of the host PDA or phone. (Limited by the SDHC specification to maximum 32GB)

This interests me, but $46.80 is a bit too much for what it offers (for me).
