So.. maintenance is happening tonight and the last time it took place around this time a 3DS system update was released that patched a couple of exploits. This means it's SUPER likely that a Wii U System Update will be released around a similar timeframe when maintenance occurs here soon. Just giving you guys a heads up.

Right, how are we going to update Smash Wii U to 1.1.6 if a possible firmware update is released for Wii U that patches everything? I currently have DNS blocking the updates, I have the nintendo websites that supposedly do the updates blocked on my router, and I prevented autoupdating or whatever. So, what's the best course of action here?

Whenever a new FW update is released, spoof will be updated to that version. To install updates, spoof and use wupInstaller to install game updates.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling.

I guess you missed the last time everyone was SURE there was going to be a system update during maintenance, because there was a new version of the SDK that was just released. We've had that maintenance time and a few more since then, and there still hasn't been an update. It's certainly not entirely impossible there will be one and people should always block updates anyway, but there is no need to cause a panic.

Probably wait until someone whips up a spoofing utility (and possibly also install the updated eshop files, if we can do that right now, if not, then softpatch the eshop)

I don't know if it's worth reporting, but my Wii U downloaded an update for YouTube although I was using tubehaxdns.
I read once that there exists another custom dns server, does anyone know the adress, would be appreciated.

Well, this is just a cautionary measure. It's not guaranteed they'll release one, but they usually only have maintenance on Monday's. So this is kinda an unusual timeframe for them lol.

You could set your DNS to some random number, which would stop your Wii U from connecting to Nintendo's servers, but it would also prevent it from connecting to anything else.

Nintendo does maintenance all the time, it doesn't necessarily mean the Wii U's getting an update.
Then there will be another maintenance, and another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one, another one.

It was on a Thursday or Friday IIRC, the last time people started to panic ...

No update was released then either.

Sorry I didn't install tubehax when I added my network again.
It's really stupid of nintendo to just offer a completely manual setup or make the network test as soon the password was entered.
Well not as stupid when they thought to intialize even their latest controllers with the state of currently pressed buttons and analog sticks, this is unacceptable.

Wait, there was a recent SDK update?
Or are you talking about the latest 2.13.01?

Earlier today I got a red x on the download management app. When I opened it I saw that a system update was trying to download but it couldn't because I have the DNS set up. Anyone else have this problem?

It's not a problem it means system updates are been blocked as intended. If anything it's a good thing to know as you can confirm you managed to block Nintendo's servers.

Oh okay. I'm glad then because I definitely do not want to lose homebrew. I've been waiting forever to have it on the Wii U!
