I was recently playing Mario Kart 7 online in a worldwide race and there was a hacker that kept on using bombs/shells/stars to torment us. If Nintendo (hopefully) decided to ban this cheater, what are his consequences?
Is it a console ban? Or just a ban from Mario Kart in general.
How long does the ban last?
Does Nintendo have the ability to IP ban people?
If it's a console ban, is he banned from all services?
Thanks for your answers in advance, and before anyone asks; no I don't intend to hack on Mario Kart 7 or any competitive game. I hacked once in Mario Kart wii and I saw no fun in it. I do hack on Animal Crossing however, but that's just to give free items and bells to my friends.

How long does the ban last?.

The only well-documented bans for cheating are on Badge Arcade, they're permanent and title-specific.

Does Nintendo have the ability to IP ban people?.

Maybe, not that it makes sense due to dynamic IPs and public networks...

If it's a console ban, is he banned from all services?.

A full console ban blocks all forms of online access through Nintendo servers; but if someone can cheat, they can also change their serial number and party again!

Yeah you can change serial numbers easy "if" you somehow get console banned but you could potentially be screwing someone over.

"They make bans secure by not using the MAC address, IP address, router, or anything else. They use a variable that cannot be changed easily: the serial number.

Nintendo does NOT use your MAC or IP address; they use your serial number as that is more secure."

Why are there not any hacks for super smash bros? I have never ran into sm4sh cheaters before.
You would expect people to play something that they could completely destroy everything in (besides mario kart)

They do track your MAC and IP, just not for actual bans. I've been banned from Nintendo Network ID services a few times without doing anything wrong just because my IP has been used for countless Miiverse raids. However, it wasn't instant, and they must have looked at my IP's activity to find this out. Just making sure this is worded properly for those who don't know.

howdo you change serial numbr
oh boy it's time to plug this thread again

Because most (Nintendo) games expect the other players to have something 100% compatible: if someone were using something like "move at double speed" and not everyone else had the same mods, the match would turn unplayable extremely soon because Smash has aggressively enforced lag prevention (pause until everyone is on the same frame) as opposed to Mario Kart where, with lag or hackers, you will see characters teleporting when received data doesn't match what your game calculated by itself.

This is also the real reason why everyone must have the same version of the game (apart from anti-homebrew world domination ego...)

That may be a good idea, but I haven't tried it before, so I wouldn't know. Asking ariankordi about it, because he's done that before for Miiverse.

they are admin in any region
so it change nothing
Well, the American admins won't be tracking a European user, especially because the user (for instance) could speak Spanish, and the American users wouldn't be experienced in that. From what I've heard, the admins act differently depending on the region.

I may actually try doing one with a EUR or JAP NNID some time, to test it out.

If you use an US console spoofed EU, EU admin will come for you
Well, what if we don't spoof it, but completely re-install everything to give it the attributes of a EU console? That's what @ariankordi did, which involved installing a EUR system update and a EUR SecureInfo_A file, probably among other things as well. So it won't be 'spoofing' as much as it'll be a full change of the console.

If you are EU, you will cannot be an other region.
That not hard to change the region, go here
https://3dbrew.org/wiki/Nandrw/sys/SecureInfo_A

And change the value in the file, nothing special.

I've a JPN console with one ID and apparently, you cannot ban by EUR Admin so I think it's the only method for our problems

Yeah, that'll probably help us out a lot. The only problem is that we likely can't use it to post custom images to USA communities, and would have to deal with users from other regions not seeing anything of the sort before.
Oh, and speaking of JPN admins...
