So i have the money, and i am considering buying a new 3ds xl. Is it worth the upgrade?

Yes I did it when the n3ds first came out and never looked back. It has more power, and as it was already said the 3d is actually usable as it tracks your head
I upgraded and I felt like I wasted my money.
I am currently running a9lh on my n3ds and I have accepted my fuck up to the point where I am a little bit happy I have it.
I'm one of those people who just gets a headache with the 3D, even on the N3DS, as my friend lent me theirs for 2 days. I am still going to get a N3DS, but just because of the added power.
It cost 175$ for a stretched screen that is the same resolution. I am a big nintendo fan but I have been very unhappy with the way that they have been treating customers recently. Bought the Wii U on launch just for zelda so they could skimp out on it. I just wish they would sell consoles that are up to par with current technology instead of always trying to gimp the user for every last penny.If I didn't have an o3ds I think the n3ds is way worth it,now I have an o3ds at my parents house and a n3ds here with me so now that the money is spent it is what it is.The n3ds is to the o3ds as the dsi is to the ds.
My gut feeling is that a new handheld is coming by 2018.Lots of people here will tell you the n3ds is the new handheld but i know better than that.
I went out of my way to get a non-xl one - I don't know why they won't sell them outside of special editions in America because their region locking screws with importing them, and even region changing isn't exact.
That said, I do love my update from o3dsxl to n3ds: it fits in my pocket, the hinges don't snap and crack like they're going to break every time you open it, the 3d works, you can open smash without taking 2 minutes to load, hyrule warriors actually works, and most of all for me snes works great. I feel like this is the next big handheld step for me since the psp, way more than the o3dsxl. Also my friend got a free cfw 3ds out of it so I think he's happy too.

You're still mad because the new 3ds/xl didn't have all the piracy entries you wanted and because you bricked your 3ds before. That thread you made throwing that big fit you made because YOU screwed up your system still exists.

When I bought mine there was only xl. Still charging 200$ for a dated console is an outrage.

Yes it is worth it, especially with Luma cfw. You can even force old 3ds games to run at a faster clock speed which will reduce or eliminate framerate drops. In addition to the n3ds exclusives and SNES vc there are also some emulators that more or less require the extra power and memory of the n3ds such as dosbox and the one for the virtual boy.
Ive been wanting to try the overclock feature on luma. Is it as simple as enabling it by turning the system on and pressing select?
yes set the option and it will be on. to turn it off just hold select while turning on and turn the option off
Yes though it isn't really overclocking as the n3ds is designed to run at that speed, it is more a matter of disabling the underclocking. Also, there are four different options, off (stock behavior), clock (increases CPU speed), enable L2 cache, and both (clock+l2). For SNES vc to work it must either be set to off or clock+l2. However there is at least one game that will crash if you choose the clock+l2 option.
the clock+l2 if you have n3ds only games as without that they will run like ass. if you just want to do o3ds games try each one and see what works best. some games hate it

I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
