The Legend of Zelda and Sonic The Hedgehog Inducted Into the World Video Game Hall of Fame

For the second year running, selection for the 2016 inductees for the World Video Game Hall of Fame was "made on the advice of journalists, scholars, and other individuals familiar with the history of video games and their role in society" and was announced yesterday, May 5th, during a special ceremony at The Strong.

This year's inductees include the following:
  • Grand Theft Auto III
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • The Oregon Trail
  • The Sims
  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Space Invaders

In June of last year the first class of the World Video Game Hall of Fame—DOOM, Pong, Pac-Man, Super Mario Bros., Tetris, and World of Warcraft—were announced at The Strong museum in Rochester, New York.

Video games are nowadays widely recognized in society with their iconic figures and titles. Holding such events is one of the many ways to celebrate video games and bring them to a wider audience.

It's actually quite sad that it is (will be?) remembered as a gem of old times than a masterpiece of today. Hope to see that change, somehow.
I know man , generations was good, lost world was OK then boom wanted to be like the uncle that got caught selling bootlegs to a cop at the movie theaters.

All of these make sense but GTA III

You dont think GTA 3 belongs? Why? That was a pretty big game changer when it came out and i remember everyone playing/talking about it and it defined the sandbox era of games. I dont see anything wrong with any of these games quite frankly, they all belong.

Isn't it a bit late? I would've expected Sonic to be one of the first inductees.

Probably a punishment for turning out as such a horrible franchise in the end.

Though that makes me wonder why it's taking them so long to add Megaman to the list (just as banzai200 stated above).

That's the only good news I heard about sonic in a while.

That's funny and sad at the same time. What a great game, but I make a habit out of getting the emeralds before the Labyrinth stage, because from then on, it's tough for me to get the minimum 50 rings. Those bonus stages can be cheap too, always frustrating to land in what appeared to just be a wall, but instead it's an end section. Sonic 2 had a better, also challenging bonus stage format, and it just a better game in almost all aspects. But Sonic 1 does deserve this.

I'm more shocked about Space Invaders, I'd have expected a game like that to be among the first along with Pong, Pac Man, Donkey Kong, etc.

But, Seriously, Why Megaman isn't on that?
He deserve it much more than Sonic

It might be because the franchise is dead. :P

Sega should bring back Alex Kidd wipe the floor with Mario, then kill off Zelda with Wonder Boy.
