Hi everyone.
I installed A9lh during the afternoon, and now i have a Luma3ds cfw Sysnand 10.7. But I run into a problem.
I was on Menuhax, with a gateway red card and 9.2/10.7. And now i'm lost because i can't get my saves from 3ds save format to CIA save format. During the transition, i formatted my sd with my emunand on it, so i don't have one anymore.
I tried to use an other 3ds with EMUNAND and SaveDataFiler, but with no success...
Is there a miracle solution? Thanks for answering :)

As far as I know, GW uses their own .sav files (named according to title id) stored on root of console SD card. These are useable even if you create new emuNAND and boot it using GW and use the same 3ds/3dz roms you had on GW red cart.

Just load that game using GW game menu, and use SaveDataFiler or JK's Save Manager app to extract/create saves from it. You can then use those saves to restore them to the CIA version of that exact same game title.

PS. Theoritically it should work, personally I never tried it.

There isn't really a miracle solution.

Since the saves are from your console, they can only be done on your console. You'd have to go back to your original setup and load GW (load rom from cart), then open SDF and export the save data. You can then use that data to import into a CIA.

VERY LONG and complicated process! You have to rename each save file to 000400000FF40A00.sav then go into SavDataFiler to export the save. Doing this for each and every game!! Can take LONG to do every game.

Once you backed up each save, you can take each backup and put it in the format that JK Save Manager uses. Which is something like: Super Mario 3D Land/(Some file in here, diff for each game)

Which then goes in SD:/JKSV/Saves/

This is from personal experience, I had to do this to migrate to Luma3DS then abandon Gateway for good.

Didn't know JK Save Manager. I used it with success to transfert pokemon ORAS savegame from an other gateway-compatible 3ds. Then i transfered the JKSM folder on my 3ds and imported it.

But I still have problems on MH4U and SSB3ds. JKSM display an error : error opening save archive
On the official JKSM post it is said that you need to launch the game before launching JKSM. But even like that, i get the error message.

Like i said, i succeeded with ROSA. So it is possible with another console :).

Didn't tried that for now. I'll try during the afternoon.

Thanks for all your advices :)

Edit : It worked amasingly well!!! Thank you for your help!!! It should be added to the tutorial on how to recover savegames on Gateway!!!

So, if I understand correctly... By putting the gateway .sav files in the correct folder structure for JKSM, I can restore the saves from .3ds/.3dz type games for example to a .cia version of the game? I thought JKSM wasn't compatible with gateway saves (at least it wasn't the last time I checked)? If that changed or was false information in the first place then awesome! I still have some gateway saves lying around that I did not import on my A9LH 3ds because the process of doing so was way too complicated and time consuming until now.

Edit: Never mind, after doing some more reading I got my answers.

This is the right answer. And here is the original tutorial. I did it a few days when I finally ditched my Gateway.
However, I had more luck with SDF than JKSV for migrating Gateway saves.
Also, some games (like Fantasy Life, IIRC) save as external data.

Once you get all your saves converted to JK Save Manager format, I recommend backing them up online like Google Drive or Dropbox. HUG these saves files tight and ENJOY how easy it is to use JK Save Manager. Cia saves are so much easier to backup and restore thanks to this app. Once you got it all backed up online, you'll practically have these save files forever. And ANYONE can import them not just you.

I personally have all my games backed up, with each save called something like: 3-22-16

Screw Gateway for making us deal with encrypted saves, and for making us have to inject headers into roms to play online. I went to A9LH and I'm never going back to Gateway as my primary.

I might actually write up a guide on migrating from Gateway to CFW, thanks for the inspiration. I love making guides on things.
