In a live stream yesterday, Square Enix announced that FINAL FANTASY XIV will have a special collaboration with Yo-Kai Watch and bring crossover contents to each title.

Square Enix assistant director of community Matt Hilton posted the details in FFXIV’s official forums, showing thirteen new Yo-Kai Watch-inspired weapons that will come to Final Fantasy XIV (one for each of XIV’s 13 jobs) and a new Whisper mount.

Here's a closer look:

He also added that "in addition to the Yo-Kai Watch themed weapons, there will also be Yo-Kai Watch minions to collect! You'll be able to earn all of the minions somewhat easily, but the weapons will be tough to get."

In a similar fashion, Final Fantasy-themed content is coming to Yo-Kai Watch 3 which releases in Japan in July. Two new yo-kai are Chocobonyan (Jibanyan riding a chocobo) and Mooglinyan:

The release is currently planned for summer since the new Yo-Kai Watch game is also coming out this summer. And according to IGN, Square Enix has confirmed that the Final Fantasy XIV component of the crossover will come to North America as well.

This is very random, I don't understand why they're doing this. Two games with two different target audiences. Confused.
When you have a game that's been in development for 10 years that will never make the profit back, you're going to do desperate things.

Troll harder, please. With the current active Final Fantasy XIV accounts, the game makes Square-Enix at least 7mil per month. Final Fantasy XIV is basically funding Final Fantasy XV, the Final Fantasy VII remake, and Kingdom Hearts III.

The logic behind this collaboration is likely because Yokai Watch is THE biggest IP in Japan right now. With the release of Yokai Watch 3, Square-Enix decided to do a collaboration event which will attract new crowds to the franchise. I've actually been playing Yokai Watch for the past week as I take a break from Final Fantasy XIV and I adore it. I haven't seen the anime, but I know exactly why it's such a big craze right now.

I wasn't talking XIV, but XV. What you wrote was my entire point.

Hell yeah!!
Edit: Why is everyone being so negative? Everyone I know in XIV is really excited, and so does the majority of the community seem to be. What's so bad about this anyways? It's a cute crossover!
