SO I had a O3ds xl with sysnand at 9.2U and gateway emunand at 10.7U
I successfully installed the A9LH from "the guide" but didn't over write the sysnand with emunand, I restored the sys nand to the original 9.2 and installed a9lh and then made the emunand back to the original at 10.7. When booting back into sys nand, I can't seem to load into the gateway loader using the browser loader or homebrew menu. Can someone help me understand if there are some settings or files I need to make this work

You must use a 9.2 firmware, sysnand or emunand, to boot into gateway

i am trying to boot from sysnAND9.2 UNDER AUREINAND

Until Gateway comes out with their a9lh payload, there are pretty much two ways to boot into Gateway Mode while using Luma3DS, the new name of AuReiNand. They both involve the use of EmuNAND, so the choice really comes down to which would you like to be more convenient: booting into GW Mode (10.7 EmuNAND) or installing GBA/DSiWare (10.7 SysNAND). Make sure that "Use SysNAND FIRM as default" is turned off in either setup for it to work properly.

1. If booting straight into GW Mode is of importance, then you will need a 9.2 SysNAND and a 10.7 EmuNAND. Configure Luma3DS to autoboot SysNAND. On the 9.2 SysNAND, set up MenuHax with Trigger 1 (no-buttons) and CtrBootManager to autoboot GW.3dsx.

The drawbacks to this setup are that you're still relying on MenuHax and GBA/DSiWare have to be double installed to work with EmuNAND. However, I find this build to be far more user-friendly for everyday use. Want to boot into GW Mode? Insert GW card and press the power button. Want to play GBA/DSiWare? Hold L while turning on the console.

2. If ease of installing GBA/DSiWare is more important, then you will need a 10.7 SysNAND and 9.2 EmuNAND. Don't turn on "Autoboot SysNAND" in the Luma3DS settings. On the 9.2 EmuNAND you can either use the same MenuHax setup as above or the GW Launcher cia file. Regardless of method chosen to launch GW.3dsx, you have to access the Gateway Menu by holding L at launch or not having the GW card inserted. Then, you have to hold B to bring up the Gateway SysNAND option and press X to confirm.

The tradeoff here is having to install GBA/DSiWare once in exchange for steps added to launching GW Mode each time you power on the system. Because of the way Luma3DS works, you're still going to have to hold L to boot Luma3DS into 10.7 SysNAND if you want to play GBA/DSiWare.

Or he can use the edited hbl cia, or use the a9lh bin for ctrbootmanager9 and just use that

use luma3ds+a9lh it's superior to gateway in every way

This is going to sound like a no-brainer, but I just want to cover all bases. Load EmuNAND9 and make sure that your EmuNAND partition isn't accidentally set up as RedNAND instead.

The only reason I'm bringing this up is because I had previously tried to use RedNAND instead of EmuNAND, in an attempt to trick the GW Launcher into booting straight into GW SySNAND. I noticed that the Launcher.dat wouldn't boot if I had a RedNAND, regardless of whether I tried to launch it from a 9.2 SysNAND or a 9.2 RedNAND. I had to test both setups just to make sure that the problem was the RedNAND itself.

Except when it comes to convenience of adding/removing games. Simply insert your MicroSD into your computer and add/remove .3ds as necessary, all without having to turn off the 3DS. CIA users have to wait for each game to install and have to look up the serial/titleid to delete games with BBM/FBI. Also being able to leave all of the 3DS game loading up to GW means that you're a lot less likely to hit the 300 title install limit.

you can use svdt to migrate those saves to cia
The only save managers that I believe work with GW are SDF and JKSM. Both of them require the same workaround of renaming the .sav files

Pretty sure its not red nand as I backed up the emunand from before I even knew about a9lh, and I recovered it to the emunand partition after the downgrade to get the otp. I can actually load emunand with the right buttons on aureinand, but I can't get gateway mode. I can't even get to the gateway menu, when I load the gateway launcher from homebrewmenu or bootmanager it just goes black, no dragon or anything, andn when I try to use the go url in the browser it just frezzes the system with some glitchy colors on the bottom screen. I have a feeling there is a firm file or settings I need to change, but not sure which or how.

First, no they don't. We just have to go to data management and unninstall the game from there as if if was any other app. Second, you will get surely banned if you play online with gateway. Third, wtf, if you want to download games you either go to that iso site to download games by the name or download them from the nus which is WAY MORE convenient than any gateway shit as its direct and can be done directly on the 3ds. And third, the gateway team is pretty much shitty with their customers and disrespects them. That linked with the fact that you have to launch gateway cfw everytime you want to play with a flashcard its way easier, faster and convenient to use a9lh+cfw(luma3ds or reinand)

Yes I get that I have a9lh and cfw with cia on my other 3ds, but I still have a gateway with many games and saves, I would like to have the best of both on this 3ds as I would rather not spend the time going and removing every save and inserting it into the cias. I know many posts talka bout ebing able to boot gateway from sysnand on 9.2 even with a9lh, What I can't figure out is HOW

So I have tried with various options turned on and off in the au settings, and I have attempted different firmware.bins, and not having one at all. I tried the one from cakes fourm page. and still not able to load gateway launcher, any ideas?

I know that this is probably a given, but I have to ask just to cover all bases. Do you have Launcher.dat on the SD card? Even if you're using GW.3dsx, you have to have the Launcher.dat file to boot into GW Mode. All GW.3dsx does is load Launcher.dat.

This is the exact setup that I have on my 3DS that works perfectly for me.

  • SysNAND 9.2/EmuNAND 10.7
  • GW.3dsx in SD:\3ds\GW
  • No files other than firmware.bin (for NTR use) in SD:\luma\
  • arm9loaderhax.bin (Luma3DS), Launcher.dat (GW), and boot.3dsx (CtrBootManager) in SD:\
  • boot.cfg set up to launch GW.3dsx
  • The following options turned on in Luma3DS configuration: Autoboot SysNAND, Force A9LH detection, Show current NAND in System Settings, Show GBA boot screen in patched AGB_FIRM. Everything else is turned off.

I believe that JKSM does *not* work with gateway; the author doesn't have a Gateway and would have no way to fix it.

It would be great if we could get JKSM, or anything, to work with Gateway in a way which doesn't require renaming the funny named .sav.

It does work if you use the same lengthy workaround as you would for GW+SDF, by copying the game's .sav file and renaming it to the same titleid as JKSM on a game-by-game basis. I tried it out myself out of curiosity's sake after discovering JKSM, but forgot to actually post about it on the JKSM thread.

So yes, JKSM does support Gateway, just not natively.
