So I have an o3ds (not XL) and it has rxtools with many games. Thing is that it has LOTS of wear and tear by which I mean marks, scratches and small dents. So I put black tape to make it look better (even though it still looks horrible but a lot better). But it's perfectly functional and good.

I was thinking about getting a new console, because the way the current one looks brings tears to my eyes. So, I can get the following at the following prices (I live in Australia and all prices in AUD):

- New 3DS preowned $188
- New 3DS preowned XL $218
- Original 3DS XL preowned $168
- Original 3DS preowned $128

I'm getting preowned because I'm going to downgrade the 3DS to 9.2.0E and if it fails I can claim it wasn't working in the first place and EB games has a soft spot for preowned item returns (from past experience). If I got a Brand New one, it would be very hard to claim it isn't working.

So which one do you think I should go for? If I got a New 3DS, I would play Hyrule Warriors (It runs at a disgusting FPS on o3DS) Xenoblade, and other games for the New 3DS.

And if I go for the New 3DS, XL or not?

If you don't really want an N3DS, perhaps replacing the 3DS housing is a replacement?

I'd get a preowned N3DS XL but I'd test it out first.

If you have money to spend go for a New 3DS.

Otherwise, wait for the next handheld. There's not much to gain from the upgrade (despite what it's owners will try to say).
I did this when the DSi was out and I had a DS Lite and I didn't regret it one bit (Despite the DSi having more exclusive content than the New3DS has).

if your o3ds is fully functional you should keep going with it. i own a n3ds and a o3ds and the difference isnt that big. xenoblade is the only exclusive game for n3ds iirc...
some games may run a little better on n3ds but thats not worth buying it for. your biggest benefit would be super stable 3d which is really great! (i hardly ever played 3d on my o3ds).

so if you really want to buy a new console go for the n3ds, if you can live with the old one, keep using it...

edit: get the big one

I bought a brand new n3ds xl for my birthday about 2 months ago ($250 from eb games, although I think big w sells them cheaper?), and I would so recommend getting one. I had an o3ds non-XL as well, and the size and speed difference is amazing. I have used a friends n3ds before getting my new n3dsxl and personally I like the size and feel of the XL more, although that's just my preference (Also, some people say that flash cards for a little funny in the XL models, but my r4i, sky and gateway's fit just fine :P).

The only thing that wants to make me cry is that Hyrule Warriors run at about 20fps... 20FPS!!!!! SO BAD!! But New 3DS runs it at an acceptable 30ish. But my biggest point is that my current 3DS LOOKS bad due to its damage as I stated in my original post.

Haha nice setup mate with three flash carts... I think I am gonna get the New 3DS not XL, because the pixels are a bit sharper and it feels nice for me but that's my personal preference. I'll try get the one from EB Games for $188, and like I said, they'll return it easily since its preowned. Also where did you get your r4i, sky3ds and gateway from? I'm in Perth, and no physical shops that sell them here, only in Sydney and Melbourne. I've heard OZModchips are good.

Well I recently swapped my Sky for a set of gateway cards from @Quantumcat, and I got my sky and r4 from OzModChips, and I believe she got her gateway from them as well. You can get an r4i gold for about $20 plus shipping, and a gateway is about $90 while the sky is $110. I also hate the idea of cover plates (idk why though :P) which is one of the main reasons I got the XL. Try hunting around a little though, I saw someone from NT auction an n3dsxl on eBay and the winning bid was $54, so make sure to have a good look around before buying anything.

O3ds dual core cpu, new 3ds quad core cup. Hat alone is reason enough to upgrade.

We want pics :D

I would agree with phalk's advice. If you have the money, go for a N3DS. If not, stay where you are.

If you like turning your handhelds into emulation stations, I'd say it's worth it. It's also worth it if you want to play your games as silky smooth as possible with ntr. :D

NTR ain't an option for me because I can't run 'unauthorised copies' and only genuine shit work on it. I need reinand so I can play any cia I want... But is there a modified version of NTR so I can run unsgined cia?

As I've said, n3ds owners will try to justify their purchase as much as they can.

But in reality, the only real benefit you will be getting is SNES VC and Xenoblade Chronicles.

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.

Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though

@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
