So I installed ReiNand on my New 3DS XL last year and I haven't messed with it in a while but I'm thinking of switching over to AuReiNand.

Being a complete noob I have no idea where to start. Can anyone give me some tips or point me to a guide or tutorial on how to do this without bricking my 3ds?

You can't brick your 3ds by switching cfws. All you have to do is delete all files for Reinand and replace them for Aureinand in your sd card.

I'm on ReiNand right now and wondering: what's the point of switching over to AuReiNand? is there any reason to?

AuReiNand supports A9LH, as well as many other features such as o3ds and n3ds support, firm 0-1 protection (no accidental upgrades that will break cfw access) and region free.

Doubt he has arm9loaderhax as he set this up a year ago?
I've been reading up on some of the posts here and keep seeing AL9H being thrown about and have no idea what that is. I haven't been keeping up with the scene since I hacked my 3DS last year and even then, I only learned enough to get me through the process. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Some reasons why I want to update my CFW are that games have been crashing randomly and for some reason, I can't get NTR to run. I might have done something wrong, but if I'm going to start fresh I'd rather go with AuReiNand.

I recommend following this guide to dump your OTP.bin and set up A9LH. If you read through the instructions carefully and follow them, it is literally impossible to brick your 3ds. Since you have ReiNand already, you can skip to step 4 (read the bottom of the "Getting Started" page first!).

So I'm not sure what menuhax is and I read part of the guide that was posted. When I originally hacked it, I used cubic ninja. Will this guide still apply for me?

What the "Getting the OTP" guide? If you haven't gotten it yet, then all of it still applies to you (from part 4 and on).

BTW, menuhax is another way to get into the hbl. It's much faster than Cubic Ninja which is why it's preferred by many (at least back then).

If your Reinand works fine for you, then no. AuReiNand ist at the moment the feature-wise most advanced and well maintained CFW, plus it works on O3DS as well as N3DS. ReiNand removed O3DS again.
And now AuReiNand also doesn't need separate firmware files anymore, it pulls them directly from the NAND, making the download completely legal if that's of matter.

I used Reinand before changing to AuReiNand and I decided to start from scratch. It's a little longer that way, but I think it's safer.

There is no danger in just swapping cfw. A lot of people have multiple on the same 3ds. They patch the nand(sys or emu)) at boot so nothing they do is perm to the nand

I had Reinand/Cakes/RxTools at the same time, but I felt like it's safer to start from zero. That's just my opinion. :D

I'm honesty curious as to why you think that.
I just like the idea of following a guide from the first step to the last. :D I'm absolutely noobish about these things so I just felt safe starting the guide from the beginning with a clean n3ds (even though it wasn't necessary). :)
